Ember Days! What are Ember days? Ember days are three days have fasting that Catholics traditionally held, at each turn of the of the season. The main purpose of these Ember days was to mainly to honour God's creation, so if you're a fan of creation and greenery, this TradCat devotion is recommended for you!

The Ember days come straight from the Old Covenant Tradition of fasting four times a year:

"Thus saith the Lord of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Juda, joy, and gladness, and great solemnities: only love ye truth and peace."
-Zechariah 8:19 DRV
The New Covenant as switched this to Wednesdays and Fridays in remembrance of Our Lord's betrayal and passion, and also added Saturday, the day Christ rested in the sepulcher. These Embers days are held on the following:

Advent Embertide, Winter Season: These Ember days are held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after the 3rd Sunday of Advent.

Lenten Embertide, Spring Season: Held on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after Quadragesima Sunday, the first Sunday of Lent.

Whit Embertide, Summer Season: The Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after Pentecost Sunday.

Michaelmas Embertide, Autumn Season: These are the Ember days coming up this week! The Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after the Feast of the Exultation of the Cross.

So these are the Ember days, I hope you're interested in them. For more information on Ember days, check out the article on FishEaters, it goes into much greater depth: https://www.fisheaters.com/emberdays.html

Michaelmas Embertide: Autumn
AbelGrimmer1607-autumn.jpg

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.

Behold the days come, when the ploughman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed, and the mountains shall dop sweetness, and every hill shall be tilled. And I will bring back the captivity of My people Israel, and they shall build the abandoned cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine of them; and shall make gardens and eat the fruits of them; and I will plant them upon their land: and I will no more pluck them out of their land which I have given them; saith the Lord thy God.

-Amos 9:13-15 DR

The eyes of all hope in thee, O Lord:
and thou givest them meat in due season.
Thou openest thy hand,
and fillest with blessing every living creature.

-Psalm 144:15-16 DR
