Some creationists make the claim that God created the Earth with maturity or embedded age during the initial creation of the Earth which is why rocks appear to be millions to billions of years old when measured with radiometric dating. The problem is that this requires God to put fake fossils in the ground.

1. When a T. rex or other large animal dies, it doesn't dig through hundreds of feet of solid basalt rock and make a fossil.

2. Therefore, any lava flows found above a fossil had to occur AFTER the organism died.

3. Lava flows found above fossils date to millions of years old which creationists claim were created during the initial creation of the Earth.

4. Therefore, if embedded age or mature Earth is correct, God had to plant fake fossils under those rocks during the initial creation of the Earth.

It was a rhetorical question to highlight your false dichotomy of literal or false. The Bible doesn't have to tell a literal history in order to relate truth to the reader.

Even taking Genesis 1 as allegory presents serious problems: such as the order of the creation events.

For the record, I believe the parables were real events as well.

Galatians 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
Galatians 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.

Notice that both Mount Sinai & Jerusalem are real cities, and Hagar was a real woman.

Adam was created ex materia from the dust of the earth.

At the time he was created, he was created as an adult.

About 20 or 30 years old.

Embedded Age Creation is simply the belief that God embedded age into His creation.

I define it as: maturity without history.

Things appear old because they are old.

Put another way, God created a 4.47 billion year old earth in 4004 BC.

The earth is 4.47 billion years old physically; but 6018 years old existentially.
