Power goes out, temporarily or ????

How to keep your food cold and from spoiling?

I came across this and thought it was a pretty 'cool' thing.

It's called the Zeer pot.

This along with a solar powered fan can help keep your food fresh in an emergency.

Here is some very good instructions on how to build one.

It's actually a pretty ancient way to preserve food in warm climates.

Here's a quick video to see how it works

I was taught to hang cloths around a box, and keep them wet with sicks from bowls of water on top of the box, going down to each. It works the same way. Pioneers in USA also built spring houses, which are sheds built around an underground spring at the point of its emergence above ground. The flowing water keeps the inside cool.

Yes, Spring houses are great, if you have the right property, as well as cool cellars, but I liked the idea of the Zeer pot because it can be used anywhere, even in a very small place like a balcony in a high rise apartment.

If you don't have wind for the evaporation you could pair a zeer pot with a solar powered fan. :)
