  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That sort of tells you all you need to know about the level of civility coming from the liberal camp. That and the gratuitous mention of Mary Cheney's sexuality in both the VP & presidential debates, the statement that the candidates' children are "fair game" and the condescending & smarmy comments Elizabeth Edwards made about the Cheneys being "ashamed" of their child. Politics aside, Lynne Cheney was right, these aren't nice people.

Pro-life and already voted today,
Wiffey
And with comments such as these, it shows that the conservative side hasn't behaved any much better than the liberals.

I'm sorry if I offended with my comments regarding Elizabeth Edwards statements about there not being any riots if Kerry/Edwards wins. I do not wish to add to the mean-spiritedness of this election. I am conservative, my husband in an Independent and I was raised by 2 liberal Democrats (formerly self-described Socialists) whom I love very much.
I believe that people can disagree on the issues and manage to maintain a civil dialogue. I was really upset to see the Cheney's daughter dragged into things and (as a mother) I can appreciate Lynne Cheney's protective impulse and indignation.

Whatever the results of the election, I pray that our nation will find a way to heal some of its divisions for the good of us all.

Again, forgive me if I offended.
The sinner,
Wiffey

I think all Kerry voters should stay home. :D
Yeah, and my daughter's SIL told her "I'll take care of your ballot for you." (My daughter is pro-life--pro-Bush, while her SIL is pro-Kerry.) Both the Bush side and the Kerry side make these little jokes about assuring that their candidate is elected. They're not serious.

Hmmm the election could be decided by Florida? Again? I thought we had enough Florida jokes with the "hanging chad" from LAST election.

(If I don't laugh and make jokes about the election, I'll chew my fingers to the bone!)

I'm voting during my lunch break. There isn't a doubt as to which Electorates Oklahoma will send to vote for the President, but the Senate race between Coburn and Carson is somewhat tight. Given the highly negative campaign from both sides, I was going to refrain from voting for either, but with three potential Supreme Court judge slots expected to open up over the next four years, having a strong Republican Senate is essential.

Well, despite the negative campaign, having Carson in the Senate would be a very bad move.
Coburn is also very open and honest with his opinions, even if they would be considered over the top in other states- I respect that about many Oklahoma politicians.
He said flat out he'd want the death penalty for abortion doctors if it was made illegal. That's the sort of no-nonsense approach that got my vote.

The behavior of the democrats within our state during this election was so poor it lost them any chance of me selecting a dem.

Also, the state questions this year are very important. I know people keep touting this "new money for education" from gambling... however... most of that money is going to come from Indian Tribes who we supposedly gave free reign too run their enterprises as they saw fit. Now that we see what a cash cow it really is, we want our cut. It's typical of how the USA has treated Native Americans, but it's also hypocritical... and it needs to stop.

I didn't vote in favor of any of the gambling nonsense. I voted against the tobacco tax, because trying to extract money unfairly from a particular commodity, especially to control the behavior of other people, is what I consider beyond acceptable behavior.

Death penalty for abortion doctors! That's way to harsh for me. But maybe because I don't believe in the death penalty.

I don't either, but Oklahom makes Texas look weak on the death penalty.

The fact that he supports tough punishment for it is

My vote on the state questions was split about 50/50 (Yay/Nay), and about 90% of them will never effect me as I'm most likely moved out of this state by May. With that said, I did vote for the Lottery questions... simply because if Oklahoma pooh-pooh's the Lottery again, people will still go to the Powerball states (Texas and Co.) to buy tickets and we should try to get at least some of that money to stay in Oklahoma. I doubt it'll be as huge a boon to Oklahoma education as people make it out to be, but perhaps it'll be something... and I pray it's used as a supplement... like they said it would.

Plus, I had to vote for the reduced property taxes for Veterans (and their widows)... I know they have that in NY, and frankly I thought they had it everywhere... glad to know that once again, Oklahoma is behind the times.
