CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's awesome, but actually Arizona (Republican Jim Kolbe) , Massachusetts ( Democrat Barney Frank), and Wisconsin(Democrat Tammy Baldwin) have had homosexuals serving in Congress.
In 1992, Althea Garrison, an African-American Republican, became the first transgender official elected to office, serving one term in the Massachusetts Statehouse. Currently, however, no transsexuals hold government positions.
Harvey Milk was the first Gay city Councilmen, but on November 27, of 1978, Milk was murdered in San Francisco City Hall as was Mayor George Moscone. On that day, former City Supervisor Danny White crawled through a basement window of the building to avoid metal detectors. White had resigned his seat on the Board following the enactment of the Gay Civil Rights bill that he had opposed.
White was convicted of two counts of voluntary manslaughter and sent to prison for seven years and eight months. This stunningly light sentence was granted in response to what is now referred to as the "twinkie defense". White's attorney argued that the defendant could not be held accountable for his actions due to the amount of junk food he had eaten on the day of the crimes. White was paroled after six years in prison and committed suicide shortly thereafter.

I'm actually happy with my state's results. Jim Ryan, the guy who kept trying to get that dangerous Rolando Cruz killed for a crime no sane person thought he committed, LOST our governor's race!
And a slim majority by Republicans in the Senate don't mean squat.

It means more than you think. For one thing, they will run the senate judiciary committee, so the Democrats can no longer stonewall perfectly quailfied individuals, just because they are conservative.

Not surprising, a thread started to address the big picture of the election results, the direction and mood of the country, and the media's coverage of it, has been reduced to nothing more than a gay issue, by one member.
Does everything boil down to nothing more than sexual preference to you, Inspired?
Are you so enthralled with your homosexuality, that nothing else in life matters?
If all you have to contribute to this thread is a narrow, sexual preference perspective, I would kindly invite you to post elsewhere. I did not start this thread to discuss you, or your gay issues.

I'm not generally sympathetic to californian politics, but I'd like to point out that the coffee referendum is not as absurd as it immediately seems. Most Americans are completely unaware of where their chocolate and coffee comes from; there are literally *no* nationwide distributors of either commodity (aside from these 'fair-trade' companies) that do not involve de-facto sharecroppers and even slave laborers. This is not liberal paranoia; I'm a libertarian. The coffee and chocolate industries need serious reform, because they get their product from distributors who often deprive their "employees" of the most basic rights. The brands of cocoa and coffee you find at the supermarket are all involved in child labor and *worse*--not directly, through their suppliers.

The news has all been good. We can finally, finally, at long last, get some decent conservative jurists appointed to the Supreme Court without having the Democrats throwing up roadblocks in front of every worthwhile candidate.
Unfortunately, we ended up with liberal pro-death Democratic governor here in Michigan, but you can't have everything, I guess.

But just think, if one, just one thing goes wrong, can you imagine the hype and coverage that the Rep's will receive? It'll be a field day, and I'm sure lil' miss Katie "you can't take me seriously" Couric will be slobbering over the prospect of grilling GW over a spit. *gag*

Illinois. I am not normally a one-issue voter, but the death penalty is a major issue for me, and knowing Ryan (the Republican) had tried to prosecute Cruz after the evidence came forward that Brian Dugan actually killed the child Cruz was supposed to have....well. Ryan had to learn the hard way.

He showed two letters, the first was sent in by a liberal and the second was sent in by a conservative. Both attacked him for being biased against their view point.
What does that tell you? Well, it told Mr. O'Reilly that he's doing his job right...
Fox news is not at all biased towards conservatives. You're just so used to watching the liberal press that it feels like bias.
Also, since the liberal point of view is fundamentally flawed, some of the fair and balanced reporting will seem to go against liberal ideology
