HOW COOL IS THAT!!!! .

Where sin abounds grace abounds much more!

Not exactly Nevada decided it would not recognize Civil Unions passed by other states.

And just for clarification, marriage does not = Civil Union

I was happier when there was a bit more balance in American politics; both democrats and republicans in positions of power enforces that whole checks and balances thing that is supposed to be integral.
Do you believe the whole "war on Iraq" thing aided the Republican's rise to power?

Or perhaps, as Wolseley and Gunny are fond of telling me, since I am Canadian, anything I have to say about America is by default absolutely wrong. :)

ACTUALLY this is what was on the ballot, sorry but it says marriage.

QUESTION NO. 2

Amendment to the Nevada Constitution

An Initiative relating to the definition of marriage

Shall the Nevada Constitution be amended to provide that: "Only a marriage between a male and female person shall be recognized and given effect in this state?"

Arizona's Gov. race is really close as well. Napolitano (D) is leading Salmon (R) by a few percentage points but they won't have an official number until as late as monday.

I am very happy that the Republicans are in control now. I just hope they do a good job because Dems are going to be looking for any opportunity to slam us in the future.

A marriage by definition takes place in a church, a Civil Union by defintion doesn't, so it that is the case, the law passed accomplished nothing, because Civil Unions are still legal. They have quite a few other definitions that legally seperate them too.

Nevada intended, on banning gay marriage, woo hoo go them they banned something that doesn't exist.

That's why I found it so amusing they intended to ban Civil Unions, and through bad wording, didn't.

Your so funny, why would there be an objection if it didnt mean anything....I think your just mad. :D

But whatever....you arent getting into specifics over marriage with me, I've lived here ALL my life and my best friend owns 5 wedding chapels.....you get MARRIED there and it isnt a church. Everyone knows what the law means and it means the UNION/MARRIAGE wont be recognized unless its between a man and a woman!

Besides the fact that you changed your arguement twice in your posts.

Why would I be mad? I can legally have my Commitment Ceremony, and wouldn't want to do it in Nevada. I didn't say marriages were limited to churches, but one major difference is Civil Unions, don't take place in a church.

I couldn't be anymore happy, right now there are 5 openly homosexual people in congress 3 are Rebuplican. :D

The whole point was that you were wrong! You tried to argue something you didnt know all the facts about, and your not even here.

Commitment Ceremony? Who cares that doesnt mean anything to anyone except yourselves. And it wont hold up here is my point.

Commitment Ceremony = Civil Union and it is recognized in several states, and those people are given the same legal rights as married couples.

We'll wait and see, you act like those in power had never been wrong and made mistakes before.
I know a marriage and a Civil Union aren't the same thing, therefore banning one, doesn't ban the other.

Its not allowed or recognized in Nevada....thats where I live, so that what I care about....I find no mistakes in the amendment.

And YOU changed your wording around in your posts from Civil Union to marriage to Civil Union.....I think your confusing yourself.

I love that picture Bear! I emailed it to my mom/dad, hubby, brother and his fiance.

I can't believe the people out here in Washington re-elected Jim McDershmuck...oops...I mean McDermott in his district. What's wrong with those people? :o

Now that the Senate is under Republican control, hopefully a lot of issues that have been sitting stale with start getting through..such as President Bush's judicial nominees (is that the right term for them?).

I think that last night's election should tell the Dem party something here..hopefully, for their own sakes, they'll listen.

Peace in Christ,

Terri

I assume this is real, I found it searching for yesterdays results.

"Berkeley, California voters defeated "Measure O," the organic coffee initiative.
Measure O would have made it a crime, punishable by up to six months in jail, for anyone to sell brewed coffee that wasn't made from the right kind of beans."

Coffee police? what an idea. Imagine spending real money putting people away for making bad coffee. Of course taxes could be raised to fund the effort, or perhaps a bond issue could be passed so that cookers of bad coffee could be made to pay for their crimes on into the future.

Better coffee!!!!! I am for that!

I don't remember which one of the talking heads it was, but one of them had his shirt sleeves rolled up and His jacket off. I suppose reading election results can be a high stress job.

Or it could have been that all of the interviews that were lined up for the evening were all busy giving concession speeches. Now that could be the problem, didn't think of that. That could explain the stress.

To think, eldermike, that there aren't any other more serious concerns in California, that they can have an initiative like this! Boy, that state must have it allllll together......

Peace in Christ,

Terri

Hey, don't blame all of California-- that one was Berkeley only, and as with most Berkeley intiatives, it was laughed at all over the rest of the state. Just so you know, had this passed they would have had to serve only "Fair Trade certified coffee - coffee that guarantees a so-called living wage for small farmers in developing countries. Or the coffee would be shade-grown, protecting rain forests and other sensitive environments. Or it would be grown without pesticides." (from http://www.globalexchange.org/economy/coffee/20020715_222.html)

I think even in Berkeley they realized that adding costs to allready overpriced coffee was stupid (imagine what a starbucks latte would be going for after this...$7?)

MsBS,

I agree, it's not just the west coast anymore.

Here on the east side, we can't get "medium cooked" ground beef or over easy eggs, I can't imagine what it would be like to get a certificate of compliance with a cup of coffee.

Not offended blindfaith, be happy :)

Having lived in California for a few years now I find myself springing to defend the state from those type of generalizations. Everyone assumes that all of California is like the SF Bay Area and LA.
