• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been on that for 2 years now. I find it very helpful to me. I suffer from depression, am a diabetect. Have arthrisis. IBM ,severe refluxe disease. This drug has help me with my stomach problems. My gastrosgoist. (sp) recomends this too. Anyways what helps with one person may not be good for another. Sometimes, it just takes to trying a diffeterent kind of medicine to help you. pinkroses.

Hi, I am on Effexor, and I wish I had never started on it, although it has helped my anxiety. I have no side-effects but the withdrawal is horrendous. I take it in the evening and if I forget to take it one day, I can tell within a moment of waking the next morning. I went on holiday earlier in the year and miscounted how much I needed, and was off it for less than three days and I felt so horrendous I just wanted to curl up and die. When I got to the supermarket to get my prescription they told me it would be a two hour wait and I just stood there in the middle of the store and cried.

However, the lack of side effects when I'm on it, mean I will not be coming off it intentionally for a while, withdrawal aside, as I have had bad side effects from other things.

I took Prozac when I was 15 and had hallucinations, vivid nightmares, flashbacks and memories of things that had never actually happened. If I hadn't been suicidal already, I would have been after a course of that.....

And just a few weeks ago in hospital they prescribed me Amitryptyline to help me get better sleep, on the lowest dose, and it completely messed me up. I had really intense paranoia and became suicidal for the first time in years. I was only on it for three days and I am still not fully back to normal.

So for me, Effexor seems to be the best of a bad lot, I am down from 225mg to 75mg, and would like to be able to come off it altogether, but I am ill enough already with ME/CFS, that I really don't need the withdrawal.

The withrawals you get from Effexor are sure horrible

BUT your not supposed to foret to take them, so u shouldn have those affects (i know everyone forgets sometimes though)

I was on zoloft for a few years, last year i increased my dose to 150mg and started going downhill alot, my slep was horrible, i put on heaps of weight, and i had foggy mind

then i went on effexor and while the withdrawal was horrible and itwas horrible at the start, its truley worked wonders, its helped my sleeping significantly,
