• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This is what works for us:

- Trying our best to avoid allergens (certain foods, detergents, dust, etc.) Especially regarding the food, it's best to get tested by an allergy specialist

- Prevention is better than cure. Using a THICK emollient cream (like the Eucerin in the tub) at least twice a day (and more if you need it, you have to figure out how many times it takes for your particular skin to stay soft enough)

- This one I'm not so fond of, but it's the only way I've been able to keep my son's eczema under excellent control for the whole past year. 1/2 to 3/4 dose of Zyrtec every night before bed.

- Make showers really short, or take very long baths until skin wrinkles and then PAT body dry (don't rub, and don't air dry) and then put on lots of thick cream (like Eucerin) or even Vaseline on your likely eczema spots... anything to lock the moisture into the skin

I used to use steroidal creams that doctors prescribed to me. They work like magic, but I stopped because of concerns about side effects like thinning of the skin. One prescription cream I had when I was 15 had a warning label on it that said it was known to cause brain tumors in lab rats. Yikes. Anyway, I didn't think the rashes were bad enough for me to risk the side effects.

I try to prevent flare-ups by using L'occitane shea butter facial moisturizer, and by TRYING to get enough sleep, and to keep stress under control.

Since I almost always fail at getting enough sleep and keeping stress under control, I inevitably have flare-ups more than I would otherwise. I use Bare Minerals foundation to cover up the redness.

If a flare-up gets out of control, then I have no choice but to use a small amount of over-the-counter cortisone cream.

Yup, I've got it as well. My version of it is called "dyshydrosis" aka tiny little bubbles that appear under my skin. It comes and goes, and honestly I have yet to find anything to stop it. I read somewhere that copper, nickel, or harsh detergents could trigger it, but I have not found any evidence of such

The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes characterized by one or more of the following symptoms: redness, swelling, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discolouration may appear and are sometimes due to healed. Scrape open wound healing can result in scarring and may increase the eruption.

I recently cured myself of ezcema I've suffered for years. I discovered that many (probably most) cases are caused by a fungal infection in the blood, also known as systemic candida, or candidiasis. Everyone has it, but it affects those in which the fungus is somehow allowed to proliferate in the body. In my case, it was from eating to much sugar and starchy foods, which fungus thrives on. Not only did my eczema disappear, my sinuses have opened up and cleared after a life time of allergies and congestion.

Candidiasis is not only responsible for vaginal yeast infections, but also jock itch. If it goes out of control in the body, it can cause a laundry list of ailments, including sinus and skin problems.

The cure (2 main things):

1) Take the turpentine-sugar formula, as instructed by Dr. Jennifer Daniels. You can listen to her on YouTube and download her free "Candida Cleaner" manual from her website. I did this and my eczema disappeared in a few weeks. I've been on it for several months twice a week to try and eradicate candida altogether. It must be 100% pure gum spirits of turpentine. Don't be afraid of it. Turpentine has been used historically as a cure-all. Hey, water is used as a paint thinner too, and I've heard of people dying from drinking too much water. Turpentine is the essential oil from the spruce (pine) tree. Countries like Russia, Norway, and rural parts of European countries use another turpine called kerosene with incredible results. I prefer turpentine, and I feel great. Dr. Daniels has been using turpentine for 20 years with no side effects. Can you say the same thing about prescription drugs? I went to skin doctors, and they did nothing for me. Steroidal medicines will only make things worse in the long run. In fact, it encourages candida overgrowth;

2) Use 100% pure essential oils you can buy from a health store. I like Aura Cacia or the organic oils from "NOW" brand, which is easier on the pocket book than higher end stuff from DoTerra and Young Living Essential Oils. Those are good if you can afford em. Essential oils works for many kinds of illnesses. I use this both topically and internally. For my eczema, I've used drops of Tea Tree, Pepperment, Clove, Eucalyptus, Lavendar, Lemon, etc. mixed with some coconut oil, and applied to the infected areas. You can use one or a combination of oils, as long as you dilute it with some coconut or olive oil. It kills the itch and the fungus. I got rid of my daughter's wart on her big toe with just a little bit of oil. These oils can also be ingested in vegi-caps to fight the fungus from within. Otherwise, it can be absorbed through the skin and into your blood stream.

Another thing is to limit your sugar and starch intake. Absolutely NO SODA! This is the #1 worse thing we consume as part of a regular diet. Diet sodas are even worse because of cancer causing aspartame. Drink water like all the other animals on this planet. Virus, bacteria and fungi throw a big party when you consume lots of sugar. If you thought Mardi Gras was big, you should look at your blood under a microscope after drinking a soda.

One final thing- Clean out your colon. You should be having 2-3 bowel movements/day. No kidding. As a general rule, drink 1 liter of clean water for every 60 Ibs. of body weight. You can add a pinch of earth salt, like sea salt or Himalayan to ensure you have the electrolytes for your body to actually use the water to detoxify itself.

Do the above and I guarantee many of your health problems will disappear.

I have eczema, mostly because I'm allergic to my cats.........

I have it on my rib cage, my chin, my upper back, lower back, and on the back of my thighs.

I usually take a quick shower to rid myself of allergens, such as cat hair/dander that might be on me and I rub pure shea butter on the spots that are flaring up. pure shea butter actually works wonders!

I'm sure you can find some at your local vitamin store. Give it a shot, it's really great for skin in multiple ways, eczema being only one.

I use to have eczema but I believe the Holy Spirit showed me what caused mine. I was a teenager when I first had outbreaks. The doctor gave me steroid cream to use and told me that puberty and hormones was causing it. Don't think I'm crazy when I tell you that I heard a voice :) . I had just put on antiperspirant deodorant and walked away when I heard, what are you putting under your arm? I even answered out loud, what does that mean, now I'm thinking ok I'm losing it :prayer: I turned back grabbed the deodorant read the ingredients, saw the ingredient aluminum and started researching it. I did not like what I discovered and quit using antiperspirant. I only use mens speed stick deodorant it has the least amount of chemicals. After about two months I no longer had eczema, I had been suffering with it for twenty years. Also my thyroid improved and my eyesight improved. It has been several years now and I just recently had my first outbreak since that time. I had bought another deodorant it wasn't an antiperspirant but it was stronger, I'm thinking it was the ether in it. I switched back and it went away. I have tried natural antiperspirants like the salt block type. It did help with the sweating but after a couple of months my saliva started tasting like salt. Arm & hammer has a natural deodorant that's good but I only use it when I go out in public because it has triclosan and that ingredient isn't suppose to be good for you. I hope this may help someone with the same problem. The doctor told me it was because of puberty but that is when I started to use deodorant.
