• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Odd, how I found this fourm! I have eczema also. Its on my feet though and I dont know how I got it in the first place. I go to the skin doctor and put it on my feet occassionally when they break out. Its not much of an issue for me though it is annoying to have

you cant get it by someone or something its something you are born with. it is a mutation.

*sighs*

The UK National Eczema Society was a lifeline when the idiot (idiot because he KNOWS what he should not eat and handle and still does!) I married was a real mess.
It took a mix of wet wraps with emoillants on normal eczema.
Icthband and coban, yes he smelt and looked rather like an eygptian mummy for a few weeks but who cares it worked because it allowed the skin to heal and even he could not scratch through the coban bandages. It is sonly fair to point out thanks to infection it took two years to clear up to a normal very dry itchy skin.

I have to watch everything from the laudry products to his clothes. Cotton Comfort make clothes for those with severe eczema flare ups that can take the lotions potions and bandages and wash and wear well.

If its out of control push to see a dermatologist to treat the external *itch* and if its caused by allergens in your home or diet and you can access a specialsit allergy doctor...go for it.

A number of years ago I used to get eczema pretty bad on my elbows, backs of my knees, feet, and hands. Was very annoying becuase I had no idea what was causing it. The doctors could only prescribe stuff which game me some relief but it always came back. I was told to cut back on the dairy products but that didn't seem to help either. It eventually went away by itself although it sometimes came back on my hands for years later until more recently it went away too and now I'm eczema free. I'm still not sure how I got rid of it although it was about the same time I made some significant changes to my lifestyle by eating healthy, exercising, reducing stress, and a better relationship with God. Might have just been a coincidence, but who knows.

ok, i wish i could remember the name of the lotion. *ding* the lightbulb has just erupted to the on position. ok, i was a nanny for a girl who had exzema, and her mom tried everything. she had to go to the dr. once every six months to get a cortizone shot (i think it was that or some type of steroid). well, she went to whole foods and found this stuff called skin food. it has a minty type smell, but it worked wonders in helping her skin. it's made by a company called weleda. it's in a green box. also, her mom got hypo-allergenic detergent, we stayed away from fabric softeners, and all of the buttons on her pants i had to pain over with nail polish because she was allergic to the material. it helped clear her up for the most part. now and then she'd have outbreaks, but as long as she was faithful in putting on the lotion, she seemed ok most of the time. hope this info was helpful to you guys. GBU all.

My DD and I both have it. Lucky for me mine is on my back and upper arms and goes away in the summer. This year my DD has it all over her arms and her's went from red to white so she looks like she has some sort of pigment problem.

I yelled at my in-laws for going "OH MY GOSH WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR ARMS." I told them she is 3 years old don't make her worry about her arms.

The doctor told me to put Hydrocrotozone (sp). It does help with the flair ups.

That's really horrible, and especially to a kid. It's nothing anyone can help, and people making comments like that certainly doesn't help things at all. :(

Mine isn't too bad for the most part, but I have been using Elidel, which seems to help.
Eczema is not a fun thing. :(

So all i could do was try my best to ocver it up with after save which i put on my shrit and pnats i would get teas form the smeel of the after shave or the smeel of the sores.

Thin skin may cause eczema: study

An international study has shed new light on the likely cause of eczema.
It has found that people who have a "thin" skin barrier are predisposed to developing the disease.
The study shows eczema may not be linked to the immune system as previously thought.
Eczema Association of Australasia spokeswoman Cheryl Talent says the condition may be triggered by a breakdown in the skin.
"It means that you can't hold the moisture enough in your skin and that's why you develop this dryness and then go on to develop maybe an itchiness, an irritation that's often due to other factors, as well irritants you come into contact with," Ms Talent said.

At the moment I have eczema covering pretty much my entire hands, all up my arms, armpits, chest, shoulders, back, a bit on my stomach, all down my legs and around the edge of my face, chin, around my eyes and my forehead, my neck, and I think it's on my scalp. It's very red and people think I've dipped my hands in boiling water and been burnt. I was using steroid creams for a while but they don't work all that well on me, and doctors tell me it thins your skin and ages it. I believe the steroid creams just worsen my problem in the long term even if they help a little short term. At the moment I've been using LPC 2%(coal tar stuff) in aq cream with water on my face which helps quite a lot, and 4% on the rest of my body which has helped extremely slightly, so I'm sticking with this for the time being.

Oh my gosh! Why is it that when you have something like this it feels like you are the ONLY one!! At least that's how I feel/felt. No one would understand that when the iching got so bad that the only thing I could thing would stop it would be to rip my skin off!! I finally found a dermatologist that would listen and she prescribed me Clobetasol Propionate Ointment USP, 0.05%. OH that was a wonderful day. Now whenever I have a flare up, I can usually tell through out the day, I use that. I only use it at night and put it on fairly generusly and then put on those $1 strechy gloves overnight. By morning things are great. If I use scented lotion or if the weather is really cold and dry then I need to use it more often. David I thought of you when I mentioned the Clobetasol because it does not burn at all. I can feel relief as soon as I put it on. Anna

Hi, I have Eczema also (mostly on the back of my legs) and have had it since I was little and it's gotten worse. My first full force break out was in 02 and it lasted a long time. It seems to get really bad in the fall/winter. I am having another out break.. its on my legs, chest really bad and spreading... I recently went to the dr and they gave me Triamcinolone which really works for me, I had for my first outbreak after everything else was tried. Are there any lotions that are really good for eczema? I don't know what kind of eczema I have but it gets really dark, itchy, raised, sometimes burns, and scaly, I hate it!! :sigh:

My daughter has exema and sensitive skin. I get her lotion from www heavenscented com . Its the only thing that not only helps soothe..but takes her breakouts of excema away.

I also referred someone else to it...she told me that she noticed continued improvement and that she didn't have marks on her arms from scratching at her exema anymore.
