Ecumenical Prayers for Pope Leo XIV and the Repose of Pope Francis

My prayers are with our Roman Catholic brethren at this time.

In Orthodoxy, we regard it as a great blessing when one reposes in Bright Week due to the joyous nature of the funeral that ensues (this was also the case with my grandmother, who was Methodist, who reposed on Pascha in 2003, this being the 20th anniversary of her repose in the Lord).

We also have a custom of saying “Christ has risen!” no matter when someone reposes, and I wish to say that to my beloved Roman Catholic friends on the forum now regarding the repose of Pope Francis.

Let us pray that God will bless the pontificate of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV and vouchsafe to guide him, that he may act to protect the Roman church from all schism and heresy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
