My wife and I haven't had an opportunity to establish our own traditions yet, but I know this year I would love to rock a celebration of the resurrection and I'd love to slow roast a brisket or some pork and have an all-out feast.

I've always attended the standard Sunday morning festival, but the church I've started going to this last year has a sunrise service in Bidwell Park, there's a giant cross on a hillside up there where they meet and have worship at sunrise on Easter morning.

Though, I have to say the song that really drives home the concept of resurrection for me is: "Oh, Happiness!" by David Crowder Band! :)

I normally don't celebrate Easter, but I do have a dinner to celebrate our Risen Lord.

I am boring :(
Am thinking that I am going to make a ham and some chicken dish ..
Chicken Marsala (I have a great recipe!) or Rosemary Garlic Chicken (easy)
Or maybe a beef roast and always green bean casserole (my boys love it),
stuffing, taters.
Dessert is always my problem, any ideas?

I'll be very excited to be done with Lent and we will eat some lovely roats lamb. I expect we'll have some family for dinner.

We have a busy week for Holy Week. We have a special celebration on Palm Sunday where all the neighbourhood churches get together and do a street procession with a donkey before going into their churches. We all sing All Glory Laud and Honour as we walk, and as we pass each church they sing a song and the pastor says a prayer and they go in. The Baptists always sing gospel music, the United Church something multi-cultural, and the Catholics sing folk music.:)

Then during the week there is choral communion Monday and Tuesday, a Tenebrae service on Wednesday, the Maunday Thursday service with striipping of the altar and an all night vigil with the reserve sacrament. Friday there is a Stations of the Cross for children, and a big service in the evening (3 hours!) Saturday morning is cleaning the church and polishing brass, and that night is the first Mass of Easter which starts around 11. I'm not sure what they will be singing.

Sunday morning is the Easter Day service, which has usually a big effort by the choir, and the children have a model of the tomb they had planted with flowers and moss that they made, and they find it opened and empty.

For hymns I expect there will be Christ the Lord is Risen Today among other things.

At home, the kids will search for eggs before church. I don't know how many services I'll get to with my husband away. Possibly just the Good Friday one for kids and Easter Sunday.

I refuse to celebrate a heathen holiday that is named after a pagan goddess of fertility.

Just kidding, I go to church, take communion, and in general just meditate on and enjoy the fact that I am free because of Christ's death and Resurrection.

We don't cook! We go to the Agape service on Pascha day at noon, and then, after that, our Church has a Paschal picnic, and lambs are roasted on the spit (2 usually), along with chicken, sausage, etc. and many side dishes and yummy desserts and good drinks - pop, juice, wine, etc. The kids have an egg hunt for fun after the service. :)

We have 16 services between Palm Sunday morning and Pascha afternoon. I'm in the choir.

I'll probably be there more than I am at home.

^_^ I know what you mean about the 16 services. :D

I do not cook starting Monday... :D I have a pot full of lentil soup that can go on for days and the handy peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches...

No cleaning no cooking we might as well camp in the church that whole week right??

I have not made any plans yet for Pasha dinner but will get around to it :)

I wonder if some of our churches would do a soup kitchen outreach activity for our teens ;)

I am litterally trying to stay away from overeating that rich lamb dinner :D.... all day !

sunlover1: Care to share it? My wife is from Panama and she already makes a lot of different dishes with chicken, but chicken marsala isn't one of them. Out of curiosity, does this forum have a section for recipes? It might be a good idea (my stomach is growling as I type), if it already doesn't.

This year it looks like there will be some sort of potluck in addition to the baskets after the midnight Pascha service. After Agape Vespers we are going to have a cook out at the priest's house. It will likely be burgers, brats, and beer rather than lamb this year.

I'm singing a different part this year and the music is giving us fits. I have 2 huge (3-4 inch thick) binders of music to learn.

We practiced all weekend, and the Byzantine arrangement of the 15th antiphon of Holy Friday (Today is Suspended) that Fr. chose is going to drive us insane before it is over. It is so complex. I finally learned the ison, but the poor sopranos....those poor, poor sopranos... ^_^

I attend church, that's all.

:thumbsup:That is the best part IMHO :) Happy Lent and Blessed Resurrection to you :)

this. Probably pick back up whatever I gave up for lent honestly :(

:thumbsup:That is the spirit :) I think I already feel weak from fasting too looking forward to the end of this Lent ;) :amen:

Wow you seem to have similar services to us ...Looong well pray that we will all endure the fasting and the Holy Week services. Our Lord though did suffer and this is a small sacrifice for us to do in reliving his Holy passion and Resurrection :)
Blessed Resurrection to you and yours :)
