The historicity of Jesus' life, teachings, and death by crucifixion is a widely accepted fact among Bible scholars and the unbiased masses. It's his miracles, resurrection and claims to deity that cause skepticism and legitimate debate.
Whether one believes it or not, the life, death, and claimed resurrection of Jesus has influenced world history and affected more peoples' lives than any other individual throughout history. Many of us recognize and appreciate this reality.
Today is our day to honor and thank God for fulfilling his glorious plan of redemption for all mankind. It is the greatest story ever told of the most important event in world history - God's reconciling his relationship with his creation through his son Jesus Christ. And though many don't understand or won't accept it, it's his one-time sacrifice on the cross that paid the price for all of our sins, justifies us before God, and offers salvation and eternal life to those who embrace Him as Lord and Savior.
That's the Good News of Easter and the Christian gospel message. It may sound offensive to those who reject it, claiming Jesus is the only way to God and eternal life, but such is the faith I embrace - not because God's offered me a free gift of grace and eternal life, but because the evidence shows it to be true. As I told my sister-in-law once who was a religious relativist: it's not how much faith we have; it's what we put our faith in that matters. IF Christianity is true as I believe to be the case, then the Bible's most famous scriptural passage is worth pondering today - for everyone.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." (John 3:16; NIV84)
