Which Bible software is better in your opinion and why?

I personally prefer e-sword but never really gave theWORD a shot. So maybe someone out here uses theWORD and can fill me in on the specifics.

If you use those programs, which one do you prefer and why?

If you use a different one, which one. Is it free? ;)

I've never used the two mentioned, probably because I don't have a good laptop so I always use a tablet. I mainly use Olive Tree, they have the most user-friendly app (Logos app is horrible, not even an exit button), reasonable prices, they giveaway free stuff and the most customization. You can make the words of Christ blue if you feel like it. Haven't used the desktop Olive Tree but looks good. When I finally get a new laptop will try others.

I use Logos :( but I agree it is very limited in function.

I have been looking into a new tablet to replace my "child worn" iPad... but the afore mentioned programs are limited in access. Esword comes on ipad (I have it on mine) and like the interface... I will give OliveTree a shot and see what it offers.

Back in the day "Quickverse" by Parsons Technologies in the KJV version was a free package. I've been using it for probably 15 years now, and since I've been reading the KJV since I was 7, I KNOW what the language is, and that makes it child's play to find Scriptures, and passages. "Quickverse" is INSTANT in reaction time, and appears bullet-proof.

And there's Blue Letter Bible if I feel the need to DIG into commentaries, or the orginal languages.

mines an old program ..you have to hold the program and run your thumb over its edge to get it to open near specific information then use your fingers to leaf closer in on that information.
its takes some getting used to and a lot of knowledge from practice in its use
but its reliable ,never locks up and has been around for many hundreds of years :D

I'm pretty much an e-Sword fanatic. Been using it for years. I have it on all my computers, and I have the "HD" version on my iPad. You can have practically any versions of the Bible you want, a seemingly unlimited number of commentaries, dictionaries, Bible reading plans, verse lists, and on & on. It supports graphics files, so you can have timelines, maps, etc. Of course you can do lookups (English, Greek, and/or Hebrew), which aren't quite as lightning fast as QuickVerse, but e-Sword is free, is expandable, and with the add-on modules is pretty much as complete as I want.

Yeah, that's why I use sword. I had heard some good things about theWORD program. I tried it but had become so used to esword that I found it hard to get used to. Thought maybe someone here used it and could explain it better. I love my esword app on ipad

Well I use a laptop and its very fast. When I get the urge or need, I plug it into a monitor that is 2560x1440 resolution which is huge. It really lets me look at a lot of resources in my bible program at once. I really enjoy it and wouldn't want to be limited to what i can do on my iPad. I do like my iPad for church and work though.

I was in the early stages of e-Sword and developed probably 2000 free modules for it before I turned to theWord. Both programs are useable. e-Sword has a more older database type function and feel. Being able to manipulate the inner windows or panels is difficult or impossible with e-Sword.

TheWord on the other hand is an extremely powerful program beating out many commercial Bible programs. I continue to develop more modules for it. If you are a really serious Bible student, you cannot get a better Bible software program (free or commercial) than theWord. With it you can search for words across various versions of the Bible at one time. It is like each one is a different book, and you are doing a regular word or phrase search on those books. I have not seen any other Bible software that can do that.

In general e-Sword is a very basic, non-powerful version of Bible software. If you just want to read the Bible, (which why not use a pdf?) then e-Sword is fine. If you really want to study the Bible, use theWord.

Moreover, the flexibility you have with theWord is unparalleled. You can copy Bible references in any Windows app, and if theWord is running, it will popup the references and the verses written out. You can even set a dictionary module to pop up definitions of any Bible word, and when you pass the mouse over words in a tw Bible window over individual words, they will pop up.

The boolean search operators of tw are fantastic. You can search for Greek or Hebrew words translated as a particular word, kurios as "lord", or kurios not translated as "lord". I do not think ANY BIBLE SOFTWARE out there is so powerful.

I am a pastor/missionary, and I use it constantly in my Bible study and for making sermons. tw puts so much information at the tip of your fingers that it is hard to go through it all. Perhaps the only more abundant resource is the Internet searches itself. But with tw you can have it on a desktop or laptop to go.

The complementary Android Bible software mysword is also excellent for Android devices. Just about every theword module out there also has a version for mySword.
