  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'd also like to add a note about magic. True, some characters in the game have access to magical abilities. But what must be understood is D&D magic is much different then real witchcraft. The easiest way to understand magic in D&D is with "psionics."

The Psionic version of D&D magic is nothing but mind over matter. Nothing supernatural, the characters don't pray to demons for powers. The psionic version of magic is simply: think about something hard enough and it will happen. AKA: if you have enough faith, it will happen. Wasn't it Jesus who said those with enough faith could move mountains... well, that's what psions do in D&D. They just have faith.

With that in mind, why is witchcraft so bad? Because it has to do with spiritism and demons. In D&D magic has nothing to do with demons. A wizard can go his entire life, casting spells every single day, and never come in contact with or talk to a demon. Even if they were to see a demon, D&D demons aren't anywhere near what real demons are like. D&D demons are just inhabitants of a different plane of existance. They're usually bad because they're always surrounded by war... but a D&D demon raised by good people would be just as good as any human or dwarf.

Even fighting can be done in a christian way. In the game we're playing right now my character is the personification of "treat people how you want to be treated." He never hurts anyone... he just makes it so when people try to hurt him, they hurt themselves. Another guy is literally a saint... when people get near him, they calm down and stop fighting... he's not even allowed to injure a fly (let alone kill the fly) on purpose.

What does everyone think? :mad:Is it evil and demonic:mad:? Or is it just a game?
My kids played it when they were teens. They turned out ok. Of course they went into it with a knowledge of God and a firm grip on reality. I would not recommend D&D to non-Christians. It is too easy for fantasy prone people to slip into delusion.

Excuse me? That's an insulting thing to say.

eh... it's just a game... though popular today as well as when it originated... probably moreso now than then.

Most of the time though, its not promoting anything good or Christ like.
Sitting around a table, having fun, sharing snacks, joking, smiling, and generally enjoying each other's company isn't good or Christlike?

I play NeverWinter Nights with the Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark expansion packs. NeverWinter Nights is simply a computer version of the Dungeons and Dragons game that has a theme line to it. It is also one of the best if not the best game I have ever played in my life on PC! The graphics are amazing and the story line is just as amazing as the graphics! I sometimes sit and play the game for hours. I had made it almost to the end of Shadows of Undrentide before until I had to format the computer and forgot put my backup of the saved game onto the computer before I erased the CD-RW! UGH! I was heart broken! lol... Let's just say it took me a few months to get that far.

As for whether or not the game is evil, it definitely isn't evil although some people can get a little too involved in it and actually begin to think it is a form of reality or something. I'd be willing to bet that some cults have been formed off of the Dungeons and Dragons thing. But honestly, I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you realize it is just fantasy and don't take it too seriously.

It is just a game! Why was I taught, when I was younger, that D&D is evil???? I don't get it. I am so glad to hear that all of you agree, for the most part.

I also don't think that being a Christian has anything to do with not slipping into delusion. If a person already has psychotic/delusional tendencies, then who knows what will set them off?

But someone who believes is dead ppl rising from the dead, a vengeful God stricking down ppl left and right, that man was created from dust, and women was created from a rib does have a firm grip on reality?

Now that's delusional.
