My cat has just started using the bathroom in the floor! She doesn't do it all the time but I can't figure out why she has started doing that! I thought it was because she thought her liter box was not clean but I clean it everyday. Any ideas?

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i would take her to the vet and have her looked at. Sometimes kitties do things like that when they're not feeling well. Like, if she has a urinary tract infection or a bladder infection.

Is it to do a poop or a pee?
If she's pooping on the ground and her litter box is clean, she might be doing it for attention, or to annoy you. I had that problem with my kitten for a while. If she was naughty and we sent her into the garage for time out, we'd come in to see her hiding behind the chairs, watching me and waiting for me to find her nice little poop. Also, if she has pooped on the floor before, she will be able to smell it and will think it means she's allowed to poop there. Make sure you cover all smells. Vinegar is good.
Put down cardboard around her litter box so she knows it's just in the litter box that she is allowed to go to the toilet. If she can't scratch over the poop she will get annoyed, so I've found my cat doesn't poop on cardboard. I did have newspaper down, but she's just pull it up, poop, then put the newspaper back down, so that wasn't teaching her anything.
When you find the poop, show your cat it and hit her (gently) on the butt and say "NO!" Then pick it up and put it in the litter box. Encourage her to scratch it over. When she starts covering it over, pat her and say "Good girl", things like that. I also like to give her a little treat when she does that. I also give her a little treat if she does a poop in her litter box without me having to watch her. She'll associate treats and cuddles with pooping in the box.

I second alwayz_remember....take the cat to the vet. It's possible that it's just a urinary tract infection, which is easy to take care of with some antibiotics. If you wait, however, it can become a much more serious problem. Trust me, urinary problems can lead to bladder problems can lead to kidney problems...this is not something you want to wait on.

To answer your question...poop.
I have wondered if she is doing it for attention. She is really smart and I think she knows she's not supposed to do that! In Oct., she will be two...so, it's not like she's training or anything. Even as a kitten she used the litter box...I bragged on her all the time about how good and clean she was (as opposed to dogs...family discussion). I'll have to make a mental note about what's happening if she does again. Thanks for the advise.

No problem. If you get concerned however it's a good idea to ask the vet just so you can make sure it's not an 'accident'. The vet established that mine is an attention-seeker when I explained how she waits for me to see it and hides etc. It's a long long process...
