  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

(Gosh, I haven't been here in a LONG Time)

I will start Dual-enrollment at community college next year. I'm only 15, so I don't want to come across as a know-it-all or anything when I get there. Will there be a problem with age? The only class I'm be taking in person and not online is Chm 151, so I worry that I'll end up with more serious and older people (as opposed to those starting with lower level Chem.) The rest are online, so I think they'll be fine.
Also, if I'm not accepted by my state's magnet school, I'll be end up in the highest math course that my community college offers, and I fear that will lead to contempt. Any advice?

Nah, you shouldn't really worry about it. I took community college classes from a young age and there was never a problem with contempt. Most people are there to take classes and get that over with. You don't have to speak up either so you won't come across as a know-it-all.

I think you will be fine. It's cool that you can get some of your education done early. Just don't rub it in people's faces about you being in dual-enrollment and they aren't. That'd probably make them not like you. Really though... don't worry about what others think about you so much. If they are truly good friends, they are going to be supportive of you, assuming you show them respect too.

I was dual-enrolled in high school too, and I didn't experience any animosity or anything from other students. Everyone was really supportive and wanted me to do well. Plus with only one class at the college, you probably won't even be there that much anyway.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. :) I think most people will think it's great that you are getting a head start on your college courses. I started taking dual enrollment courses when I was 16 and it helped SO much. I had a lot of my general ed out of the way by the time I started my first year of college.

From my experience with college courses, there aren't many professors who ask a lot of questions. It's mostly lecture... and more lecture... and more lecture. :p Some classes have more discussion than others, but I don't think chem would be one of them.

Good luck!

Has anyone taken General Chemistry I or Elementary Spanish I? How would it compare to a High School class?
For chem, it's pretty much the same. Don't really know about Spanish, though. You'll do fine; don't worry about it too much.
