  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

D’Souza, Set for Trial, Pleads Guilty to a Campaign Finance Violation
Prosecutors said Mr. D’Souza arranged in August 2012 to have two friends each donate $10,000 on behalf of themselves and their spouses to Ms. Long’s campaign, with the understanding that he would reimburse them. That resulted in a contribution of $20,000, which exceeded the $5,000 individual limit for the 2012 election cycle...

...Mr. D’Souza declined to comment as he left the courtroom. But by midafternoon on Tuesday, there were three new posts on his Facebook page, including one that offered a link to Ms. Long’s statement. Another was a reminder of the release date for his new book: “Pre-order your copy here!”

Clearly, this is  ! Obama ! targeting poor Mr. D'Souza. He was just minding his business and reimbursing his friends as usual... suddenly, the big bad Justice Department comes in with  ! Eric Holder ! and just so happened to catch him in an illegal act. ;)
It's only technically illegal.

D'Souza didn't plead guilty to or admit guilt in violating the individual campaign limit. He admitted guilt to another crime.
On the Kelly File he stated that he pled guilty to exceeding the campaign limit. Do you have other information?

Which crime did he admit committing?

D'SOUZA: I don't know. I mean, I was facing two charges, Megyn. The first one was exceeding the campaign financially limits. The second one was causing the government, the election commission to file a false report and that second charge carried five -- a maximum of five years in prison. So what happened is I pleaded guilty to the charge of exceeding the campaign financially limits and the government agreed to drop the other charge.

KELLY:
There was never any doubt that you did it.

D'SOUZA:
Right.

Is it the word "individual" that you object to?

We're aware of that, but what were the actual charges to which he pled guilty?

Do you need a statute in order to help your defense of this criminal? Really? He gave money to two "associates" to donate so he could get around the cap on finance laws. His silly statement implying that he merely exceeded the limit is an attempt to minimize the fraud.

Emphasis mine (some of the quote is just to explain why D'oosha was quick to capitulate):
“I knew that causing a campaign contribution to be made in the name of another was wrong and something the law forbids,” D’Souza said, according to Newsday. “I deeply regret my conduct.”
Brafman added in his press statement: “Mr. D’Souza agreed to accept responsibility for having urged two close associates to make contributions of $10,000 each to the unsuccessful 2012 senate campaign of Wendy Long and then reimbursing them for their contributions. Given the technical nature of the charge, there was no viable defense.”
Berman set D’Souza’s sentencing for Sept. 23.
In addition to capping the amount of jail time D’Souza could face, the plea deal could help minimize attention to embarrassing aspects of the case that go beyond the illegality the author admitted to Tuesday.
Evidence disclosed in pre-trial motions indicated that two of the illegal donations were routed through D’Souza’s mistress, Denise Joseph, and her husband, Louis Joseph.
In 2012, D’ Souza resigned from his post as president of evangelical King’s College in New York following reports that he attended a South Carolina conference on Christian values accompanied by Denise Joseph and introduced her as his fiancee despite the fact that he was still married at the time to another woman.
He later said in a statement he’d been separated from his wife for two years and “had no idea that it is considered wrong in Christian circles to be engaged prior to being divorced, even though in a state of separation and in divorce proceedings.”

Dinesh D'Souza: Criminal

I guess he won't be voting anymore. I'm sure politicians will still accept money from this criminal.
Was it a felony? In some states, he can vote when his sentence is fulfilled.

What he did isn't the point. The point is what he pled guilty to. The two aren't always the same

That's true - he plead guilty to one charge and, in exchange, they dropped the other.

And according to him, he pled to exceeding the contribution limit. I'm asking if anyone has evidence that he pled to something other than that.
