What's that supposed to mean...

I bet you have good works... I don't think you are ignoring it. I have faith in you as a Christian, that you are doing good things in Christ's name.

You deny it in theology but in real life you practice it.

Forgive me...

I don't think you realize what a huge topic this actually is. This is something I put together a few years ago after reading a few books on icons. Hopefully it will answer your question.
Often an icon will have text that goes with it such as IC XC. Lots and lots of details... Iconography is the subject.
Thank you both for your enlightening information. I really appreciate it, I had no idea that it was so detailed and interesting. Thank you again.

I bet you have good works.

Forgive me...

You know sir, you know absolutely nothing about my life. But how terribly sad and unfortunate that you feel the need to suggest that because I believe Christ's sacrifice was enough, and because I rest in Him, that perhaps I don't also serve Him.

How glad I am that you will not be my judge. And how glad I am that I stand on Christ's finished work and righteousness.

God bless you.

Mary did die in the flesh though. She wasn't translated like Enoch and Elijah
Sorry, I didn't see this question until now. You're right that Mary did die, but on the third day of her lying in her tomb, Christ came and resurrected her body, taking her (resurrected body and soul) into the Kingdom of Heaven where she now resides at His side forever.

If you ever get the time and really wanted to know about the Orthodox Church and the Virgin Mary, you should read this: Dormition of the Theotokos - Concord, NH

You got the wrong idea here. I'm saying that you do serve him.

Yep, you got me! That's exactly what I said. You're right, I'm just looking for an excuse to revel in my sin and refuse to help anyone!

God bless you too!
I didn't quote you at all. However- since you seem to think I am addressing you- do you think Catholics are only or primarily works focused? Many around here actually do believe that. That's a huge topic that comes up a lot around here- and they quote one scripture and ignore others regarding faith and works. If you are in a position where you are actually arguing faith vs. works instead of having a faith that works- then you need to go earlier with your Christianity- because that is a modern argument and innovation.

I try. But the thing is, I know that in my flesh I am not good enough. I also know that I could serve Him all my life and it would never be enough to earn my salvation.

That is why I put my salvation in Christ's hands alone, not in my own.

Faith unto good works is Biblical. So, I'll stick with that.

God bless.

Moses was a murderer. Are you really that bad?

We all are. The wages of sin is death, and we're all sinners. That is why we need the gift of God, eternal life in His Son.

1Jo 5:16-17

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not untodeath. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

All sin is not equal.
You may be in need of baptism only... or you may be like me seeking every grace. A baby may not need anything.

Forgive me...

Where is this event about Jesus raising Mary written in Scripture? Or is that the holy tradition of "The Assumption of Mary." I have some Catholic knowledge books written by Catholics that claim that was a made up story, that got believed and became tradition.

All sin is "mortal", as in all sin leads to death, apart from Christ.

Do you believe if you sin you need to ask for forgiveness, or is it automatic now? And what if you don't repent? Are you saved?

The Church has existed for over 2000 years and there is a long history of miraculous events that are recorded and passed on. The Life of the Church didn't end with the events recorded in Scripture. The Life of the Church carries on until this very day. God completely cured a man from New Jersey just last month of untreatable stage 4 cancer, who had reached the end of his rope. That man had been anointed with fragrant oil (myrrh) that miraculously streams from the surface of a painted image of Mary holding Jesus as a child, while the presbyters prayed over him and asked that she pray for him. His doctors examined him the following week and could find no sign of the cancer that was supposedly going to kill him.

What happened with the Theotokos at her Dormition is not made up.

I was saved when I first believed and trusted in Christ alone for salvation.

Where is it written and by whom? There must be a beginning somewhere of the incident.
