But Is it really good for a christian to be drinking

In moderate ammounts, there seems to be certain health benefits. Although it is debatable whether some other food or supplement could not also give those same benefits.

For a chrisitian to drink per say is neither good nor evil.

"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink... Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 'Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!'... Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence." Colosssians 2:16

However,

"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." Ephesians 5:18

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God" 1 Corinthians 10:31

Refraining from drinking is only meaningful if someone chooses this for themselves after deliberation. If someone does not drink because other people coerce them, of what value is that?

Drinking to the point of debauchery is surely bad. Drinking to the point of physical harm hurts the temple of God. Drinking where inconsiderate of others who take offense is a poor witness. Drinking for those weak of faith may cause others to stumble. Drinking causes some people to behave violently.

However... drink itself is neither good nor evil.

Is it alcohol that destroys relationships? Or people being idiots while they're drunk. Sure it's a lot easier to blame the drug than accept responsibility for your own idiocy. But most people aren't that responsible. So, alcohol gets a bad rap as a relationship wrecker and family destroyer.

Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with it. Being drunk just isn't fun. Peyote, on the other hand...

To a 14 year old, I'd say "bad". But there are nuances. Taken to excess, drinking can lead to abuse, depression, disease, fighting, and many other problems. But taken in moderation (not that everyone can take it in moderation), it can be pleasurable.

It's like asking why anyone would want to eat ice cream because you can eat so much that you become obese, get diabetes, lose your spouse and die from heart failure.

It's bad or good depending on use.

If it's recreational AND you aren't doing anything stupid while drunk, i would'nt say it's bad. If you are drinking to forget about things in life or are drinking and driving after a couple cocktails, that's bad because it puts yourself and others at risk.

It's about on the same level as marijuana, atleast in my book.

Hey, ending with a loaded question isn’t high-quality. Does a beer bottle sitting in the refrigerator demolish families or ruin relationships? Does liquor jump out of its bottle and tear down families or ruin relationships? Alcohol isn’t the problem, the individual is the problem. If you cannot moderate or manage yourself then that is the main problem.

Was it sinful to drink the wine provided by our Lord at the Wedding at Cana?

If not, why would it be sinful to drink the wine provided by him via the vineyard behind my house, or the beer he provides via the brewery at the end of my garden?

Drinking alcohol isn't sinful. Abusing anything is.

I have no problem with moderate consumption of alcohol. however, Drinking in excess can lead to alcoholism and drunkenness, both of which must be avoided at all costs to prevent the problems you described.

In the New Testament, Christians are warned against drunkness and about various addictions. It would be these that are sinful. Occasional drinking is okay.

In Jesus' day, water was not very clean. It was turned to wine because the fermentation process killed bacteria. The wine Jesus would have drunk (in general) would have had very little alcohol and been for health purposes.

Along the same lines, today it is OK by me to have alcohol in moderation. Wine and beer taste good to some people (myself included). It's not so bad to have a few beers while watching the game or a few glasses of wine around the dinner table. But drinking is not OK when it becomes a source of recreation and it is only done with intent to get drunk.

Off topic, but it's not fermentation that kills the bacteria. The alcohol produced by fermentation is mildly anti-bacterial, but only mildly at that concentration - barely enough to make wine safe and completely insufficient to make the water safe when you water the wine. However (red) grape skins contain a much stronger anti-bacterial, which is quite capable of killing the bacteria in any added water.

Beer is safe because the process involves boiling it. But you can't water beer and have it make the water safe.

But drinking is not OK when it becomes a source of recreation and it is only done with intent to get drunk.
There is nothing wrong with beer as a source of recreation - ask any serious homebrewer or member of the Campaign for Real Ale.

Getting drunk, on the other hand, is abusing alcholol.

Here's what the bible say's about drinking wine:

1Ti 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. (This was Paula's advise to Timothy when he was sick.) Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
If we study the bible we know that Jesus & the Apstoles drank wine, but their advise to us is not to drink wherein is excess!

[size=+1] The word translated "wine" is "oinos" that means grape juice - fermented or not. A revealing scripture is:-
Proverbs 31:4-7: It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Christians are "kings", the have the "new wine" - the Holy Spirit, a "new heart", with the joy of the Lord, so the need for alcohol to give temporary reprieve from sorrow is removed. Many will testify that after they received the Holy Spirit the bible way (Acts 2v5, 33, 38; 10v44-46 etc) the desire for alcohol left them (it tastes foul), same for smoking and swearing. As Jesus said "you shall receive power after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me" (Acts 1v4-8)

Wine (fruit juice) has medical properties - vitamins, the water in the mediterranean was and is of poor quality. Paul was not advocating the use of alcohol which is a mild poisin (causing sclorosis of the liver), neither was Jesus giving people alcohol.
