I read somewhere recently that you can tell a regular dream from a prophetic dream by whether you are outside of the event or not, if its an event concerning you. Meaning, if in the dream/vision, you are with someone and you can see them 'through your own eyes', this is more likely just to be a dream than if you were watching yourself with someone from a 'fly on the wall' perspective.
I just was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this, cause I thought it was pretty interesting :)

This is just me i dont know about others a dream just feels like a dream but a vision is a hole different thing you can be awake and its like you are removed from your body and taken and shown things then brought back sometimes when praying a vision is like an image projected in your mind while praying. For myself visions leave me weak and sickly feeling and makes my hair change color but i do not think that is the normal for most. i can tell you this when you have a vision you will beyound a doubt know that you had a vision. the best way to explain it is that you cant explain it, you will know beyound a doubt because its etched in your mind where dreams fade away a vision remains vivid. hope that helps but understand i am sure everyone is different. i always see purple at the beginning and the end of the vision.

Look in Joel, about dreams and visions, and I think Peter. Young men will have visions and old men dream dreams...

There is the great American dream. And the vision of the Antiochan church...

The vision of a church reaching people through contemporary art... to present Christ to all people...

I have had prophetic dreams/visions when I was experiencing the dream myself or when I was observing it. Then I have had dreams that just were about me that didn't effect the body of Christ.

Every dream that is of the Lord, that does pertain to the body of Christ and is prophetic should be looked at from every angle. I had one recently that I thought was about me, but turned out to be for my church body. It was prophetic, but I didn't know this until I started to look at how I was feeling in the dream, what the atmosphere was like, etc.

There is a lady that I know who has the gift of interpretation of dreams. She said to look at every single detail in a dream because it all means something.

I've had dreams proven to me to be from God where I was watching myself from outside... and from when I was inside. Some of these dreams I have sometimes been outside, this "fly on the wall" perspective as you say well, and sometimes inside.

Some of the dreams I am not there at all, but watching something happen.

The dreams I tend to remember tend to be dreams from God... except for the obviously stupid, carnal dreams and such.

How do you know a dream is from God. Or a vision - which can often appear just as our thoughts do - which brings us to the voice of God who sometimes guides us from within.

I will say truly, at times, this can be a hard question.

What I have found is that you just really have to listen, pay attention, and be believing. Add to this prayer and every manner of devotion.

If a dream or thought or day dream or words come to you, consider your own capability. Are you capable of coming up with such things yourself? I do find that with God, this would be a negatory for the dreams from God. That is the unmistable conclusion. God has the ability to sign His fingerprint... to events, as well. The Hand of God, as it were. Some things, well, are just impossible... which is quite odd considering that reality itself is actually quite impossible... yet it is so ordered that everything tends to happen in a way we can say ordinary events are very probable. So, when the impossible happens? That is the fingerprint of the Author of this Story, God.

He makes Himself known.

:)

Hope that helps.
