and when Gohan couldn't beat Majin Buu I also think that the Old Kai gave his life so Goku could save the world...Then Shin (The Supreme Kai) gave Goku th potara earrings and brought Vegeta back to life so that Goku and him could fuse and fight Super Buu...At lest tat's how I understood it (I got that info off of DBZ Budokai 3 ) If you want more info about this matter you can go here
