Dragon Ball Z

I'm gonna guess that I'm one of the few Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z fans here (if not the only one). Seems that every anime fan I talk to really hates it, but I really enjoy it a lot. Anyone else out there?

DBZ is the bomb. It is the greatest thing to come to anime.

It is the essence of all man's ego and pride combined, thus making it an irresistble show.

Power and all things combined, speed, technique, etc.

You could divulge into all sorts of dissertations on the physics of it, the theory of "how", etc.

However, you can't really do it without looking bloody stupid, because its really based on vague intreptations.

I just love how they fly and fight. Plus it just looks cool, and is beyound human, which makes it all the better. Its just too fast.

Which makes me say why is powering up cool?

First you must get past the word 'cool', because its a stumbling block. The word cool when used in conjunction with DBZ gives the impression of uber 5 year olds going "WOAH COOOOL!".

After you get beyound that, why is powering up so cool. Why is a bunch of dirt flying and bursts of light so interesting?

I think its because it means this: Someone is about to get beat up.

It really is an interesting show, and some parts are just genius, especially using simple emotions to 'trigger' transformations, etc.

I like it.

Er... this definitely isn't my thread to comment in, but I'd like to point out that many people think DBZ gives all anime a bad name. Don't proselytize it, it will only make people annoyed

While I do enjoy this particular anime, I don't think it is the crowning king of all animes. But I will say this.
There are different types of anime because there are different types of anime fans. Personally while I did enjoy watching Akira, I personally do not think its even in the top 50 titles of anime, doesn't mean that I think anything less of those who feel that it is the anime to judge all animes by though.
Frankly whenever I see the fight between those who enjoy this anime and those who think its the worst anime out there, I just think aren't we a little old for these playground antics?

Its the pursuit of power and just their power that makes it such a nice thing to watch, from power levels to sensing, to fighting so fast.

Its hard to explain why DBZ is the bomb and the greatest thing to come to anime for me. It just has all the things going for it that are great, such as... well extra sensory abilities to uber human fighting speeds, to the scale of power and progress of the character's.

OH GENIUS! SHEER GENIUS! Yet I cannot put it all in words just yet.

I personally like DBZ. I think the people you are talking to, may be mistaking DBZ for Dragon Ball GT. Any anime fans I have talked to, don't like GT, but they love DBZ. My fav characters are Piccolo and Cell(in his second form).

I like all the kids, because I love the whole "little kid can kick your butt" story. I loved Goku as a kid, then Gohan and then Trunks and Goten.

As far as villains, I'm a Frieza fan - simply because he was the first villian of the DBZ world (and the first I saw when I started getting into it).. Plus, his battle with Goku had much more tension to it because Freiza really did seem unbeatable (prolly cause the saga was sooo long).

Fat Buu is great too. I dunno, the more I think about it, its hard to choose a favorite. Vegeta's character went through the most radical and awesome transformation (although once he finally started being nice to Goku at the end of the series, I started missing the old cocky Vegeta)..

I liked Videl and Chi Chi, simply because I've always liked cute girls who could kick butt

Ah, and who could forget the Ginyu Force? Their corney poses were my kind of silly/dumb humor. I love that stuff. The best line was when he and Frieza were trying to figure out how to use the dragon balls, and Frieza suggests that they may need to use a special word - to which Captain Ginyu replies, "Would you like me to do the dance of special words?" I was laughing for like a half hour after that one.

Haven't seen any of GT yet, but from what I've heard it's terrible. My sister is collecting the original Dragon Ball series on DVD.. I'm enjoying that too.

Oh I have encountered people who think that DBZ is the scum of the anime pile. Quite a few people have discounted me as a serious fan of anime once they found out that I do like that show.

And most people will discount GT just after watching the first few episodes just because the first half of the series is junk.

40 episodes per plot arc. It's a good way to catch up on sleep I suppose.

Nice idea, decent characters...the pacing absolutely sucks. 3-4 episodes of 'preparing to fight' - analyzing each others 'power level' and stuff. Then fight for 4 episodes to no concise victory.

i like DBZ and Dragonball! I haven't watched it in a while though... so ihave no idea what's going on...my favorite characters are Pan and little Goku...Goku always cracked me up...

I'd like five cheeseburgers please, while you're at it, can i have fries with that?

It's ok, but after Namek blows, it gets too repetitive and loses consistancy.

How is it that it took Kakkarot 30 odd years of non-stop training and fighting to become a SSJ, and yet we have a 7 year old Goten ready to vaporize Frieza with very little training?

I will admit that I'm a Dragonball/Z fan. Its a great show that keeps its humor. To think that it was once a magna then for it to be on Cartoon Network is truly amazing. Other anime fans have to also give this series credit because I think it really paved the way for the other animes that we've come to love to come over to the states. The GT series is obviously the worst because it wasn't done by Akira Toriyama and it kind of lost its heart. But overall Dragonball is a good series.

Dude, Dragon Ball Z is not very good. It is extremely repetitive where each person's special attack is a bigger ball of energy and the punching is boring. The story is also horrible.

another fan here. The cool thing is the subtle message of a savior--Goku--who publically seeks no reputation or accolades. His core values of loyalty, friendship, honor, respect, orbiting around family and friends makes him a likable character. A true hero
