Hitler had severe self esteem problems. He was horribly abused by his father and thus gave him a complex that he hated everything about himself. Since his father was the son of an unmarried maid to a Jew he thought that he was jewish. Even if he wasn't it is irrelevant because he thought himself a jew.

As well I don't see how Allah "asks" people to kill innocent people. But considering your use of logic I'm sure we could say lots of things that don't make sense.

And what's wrong with the draft? Other than there is no need for one, as Desi said, we have more and more people being patriotic and singing up all the time. and if it weren't for the fact that I am planning on going in as an officer, and not an enlisted, I would be the first person at the booth when the draft came out. They wouldn't need to send me a letter, other then maybe directions to the nearest booth!

If you're so into the draft, then just sign up for the military on your own. There is no need to involve others who don't want to be murdered when there are people like you who can sign up.

It's very easy for middle aged men to pass a draft that doesn't affect them.

Frankly, I'm fearful of all people who use the name of God, Allah, Mohammed, etc... to justify their warring behavior. The God that I know does not have to be defended (He/She is able to defend Him/Herself if need be), doesn't have a "favorite" country or part of the world or a favorite ethnic group. I believe that we all believe that God (whatever you choose to call Him/Her) created us all and that we are all one in truth. I also believe that when we begin to realize that we, as countries and individuals, are responsible for the suffering, poverty and disease all over the world and stop the oppression, the wars will cease. Just think if the US had used the over 200 Billion dollars that we have spent on the invasion of Iraq on education of children in Pakistan and other nations who are having to go to extremist Muslim schools because that is the only choice they have, the cure of Aids in Africa, and the starvation in many third world countries how much better off the world would be.

Of course, there will always be radical dictators like Saddam Hussein and extremists that kill and destroy their own people as in Sudan today; however, that is the reason international agencies such as the United Nations and NATO were created - to deal with those issues. Oppressed people who live in extreme conditions take extreme measures. Perhaps we should spend more time listening instead of judging. Right??

To claim that wars are about religion is just wrong. Wars are fought to gain power and control and for all of history, those who fight them are willing to use God as they need to to justify their decisions.

LordsRanger, your premises do not hold up. 1) A nuclear war, regardless of the opponents, doesn't require a surplus of troops; only devices and delivery systems which are produced and maintained well before the conflict. 2) In the unlikely event of a simultaneous war with North Korea and China, we will be using almost entirely seperate resources and strategies. Fighting the North Koreans will be a typical land war that will go even more poorly for them than the same kind of war went for the Iraqis as we already have major assets in the theater and the South Koreans are more than capable of assisting in their own defense. Fighting the Chinese over Taiwan is a naval and air confrontation again with allies who more than capable of assisting in their own defense.

The rest of the reasons get sillier for creating a draft as you go along in your post. You seem to think that risking the professionalism, dedication and training that our current all-volunteer armed forces (which my brother is currently proudly serving in) give us is useful for some rather hackneyed scenarios which our current force structure is quite capable of dealing with. In addition, an all-volunteer armed force is actually the ultimate representation of democracy. It is just as large as our citizens feel that it needs to be and will grow and shrink with how we perceive our needs and theats to be, not some slave army from our past that can be used for any adventure that a relatively few people decide to take them on.

Irish, again this is off topic but you should be careful about criticizing religions that base their celebrations on events having to do with the phases of the moon unless you are also going to be equally denigrating of the Jewish Diety of the Old Testament and by extension your own God.

There is now pending legislation House and Senate, twin bills,SB89 and HR163 being quietly worked through to start the draft of men and women ages 18 to 26 years old as early as Spring 2005.Please pray that these bills will not go through.This administration is trying to get them passed before the next Presidential election, thinking that the public will not be aware of what they're doing. I haven't read the rest of the posts, so I don't know if anyone else said it. Last I heard it was not the Bush Administration trying to get a draft. I saw an interview with Charles Rangel, Democrat Congressman from Harlem, NY, anti-war, who wanted a draft to ensure that a disproportionate amount of minorities would not be sent to war. I think it has zero chance of passing as anyone who votes for it is toast politically.

no not yet anyway.
there is no draft at the moment, there is a requirement to register for a draft.
previously women were excluded from the draft along with the privlidged.

Rangles call for a fair draft is not to likely. He is trying to raise the issue to get people to engage politically on the larger issue of the Iraq war.
Rangle, by the way, is a combat vet.
