I have learned that torrenting is a sin. Which makes it hard because I have animation and editing softwares which I will have to delete and they cost a fortune.

I also have LOTS of music downloaded for free. Which has to go I suppose.

So I was just wondering though, I love to listen to sermons on my way to work. Is downloading youtube videos ok? Some are copyrighted which i'll stay away from but if some are not, is it ok to download?

If they are not copyrighted and are being placed on a public media platform for you to watch... then what difference does it make whether you watch the free un-copyrighted material from your PC or offline on a plane on your phone? None... it was there to be watched for free anyway. IMHO :)

I think it's okay. In most cases, it only forbids you from using the material for commercial purposes or re-posting in youtube or anywhere on the internet.

Its downloading various things (movies, games, music) through special software that connects many computers together and allows you to download the wanted files from other peoples pc, and then your pc automatically uploads them to anyone else who wants them, as long as the torrenting software is running.

Imagine you want a book of 300 pages and have 100 people with the book each copy 3 pages and send them to you and you glue them together, and from time to time you copy some of those pages and send them to other people. Of course, your computer does the work automatically.

Basically it makes you not only "steal" copyrighted material, but also makes you distribute it to others. So I guess its a double whammy if you value copyrights.

"torrenting" is not a sin...its not wrong what so ever. There are TONS of free stuff on it..free software. There are also movies..games..software that should not be up there. To download THOSE one should not.

Think of it if like the Google app store on Android or Apple store where you can find all kinds of FREE apps games.. but tons of others you have to pay for. Imagine if it all that, now you didn't have to pay for. Thats torrent. I know some that love flight sim stuff. There are TONS of free things like that.. free e-books.. on and on. People do the same kind of thing with FACEBOOK believe it or not. Does not make FACEBOOK evil or sin....yet I dont facebook.

As for youtube.. same kind of thing.. I did one not to long ago..some old time preacher..

But know this with torrents.. temptation will be there. Music? To easy to just get things like Spotify or Apple music or Amazon where you can download through their app and listen or just listen to anything for a very small fee. I have found Christians download swap Christian music just as much as the world does. Talking to a major Christian music group one day.. he said.. we know.. please dont say or do anything. They really didnt like it but.. sad huh.

Toss all this out.. we all do something that we should not. there is NONE not ONE righteous not one. Its ONLY through Christ believing in HIM we are righteous. So.. live one day at a time.. try to do good.. your no ones god.. repent and love see the best 1st.. ALWAYS actnowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path

If you want to *listen* to sermons (as opposed to watching them) I recommend sermonaudio. It is quite certain that any sermon there is freely available for personal use.

As others have mentioned, it's not just whether something is copyrighted that determines whether it's wrong to download it. In most cases things posted publicly may be freely downloaded and used.

Of course there are disreputable sites, which have content *not* properly licensed. Usually you are ok if you check the site's copyright page, unless they start hemming and hawing about why they post unauthorized material without permission.

You can legally download YouTube content WITH YOUTUBE PREMIUM. It’s only $15 a month and you can get unlimited music through YouTube premium too, so for $15 a month that takes care of your video downloads as well as YouTube Music. There’s a separate app for the music also covered by Premium.

Side Note: with YouTube Premium you can close the app and listen to it in the background while you do other things on your phone/computer.

It is Maya Autodesk and some of the Adobe softwares I want to use for personal/professional purposes.

Adobe runs specials on Creative Cloud. Oftentimes they're mentioned on CreativeLive. Both programs have student rates as I'm sure you're aware.

Torrents deprive you of two things which have a profound impact on your professional work: The dignity of paying your way and the creativity that is an outgrowth of your sacrifice. The challenge you experience to afford the software is the catalyst for your growth. Your investment is a seed which work nurtures and expands.

But when you subvert the process and have no skin in the game; the results differ. One shortcut begets another. You won't have a sense of accomplishment that comes with doing something difficult. It has a marked effect on your mind and shouldn't be underscored.

You don't have a story to tell. You don't have anything to draw upon when you're struggling. Your minor accomplishment gives you confidence to take another leap and another and so on. But if you've never stretched yourself at all. What would compel you to begin at a later time?

This is one of the primary reasons successful people recount their beginnings. They recollect when they didn't have much and reminisce about the numerous sacrifices their goal required. Once they'd taken the first step the next was easier. And their retelling allows them to glimpse how far they've come since that point.

In other words, take the hit. If you are reluctant to do so that says less about your pocket and more about a hidden doubt within you're unwilling to face. When your belief and potential are well aligned the notion of torrents are far from your thoughts.

You're not hoping for greatness. You're bringing it to the fore. :)

Technically when a person watches anything on the internet, the media is streamed from a server and downloaded to the receiving PC. Media content is often streamed to temporary folders and in segments and automatically deleted without the users knowledge. Youtube does not want anyone downloading any of the content hosted on their servers for offline purposes. I happen to disagree with Youtube on that particular policy, but I come from the days of Beta and VHS, blank cassettes, and when free air radio was the only radio. People will debate this, but I primarily back up and archive for personal private use, and I have never recorded or downloaded copyrighted content and sold it. A massive amount of content is in the public domain, sites like archive.org host it. Digital preservation has become important, so much of our lives involves media in one form or another, and how will those after us learn anything about us, about our culture or about this digital age except it is preserved?

These days even disc swapping is becoming more and more a thing of the past. Everything is going digital it seems.
