• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know how you feel... :(

I have two broken moulers and cannot get them fixed because my Federally Funded health insurance won't fix them, they will only pull them. I am Super Down about being Severely Disabled since birth. I have a Right to Ask God Why sometimes. It seems the USA wants to spend more on protecting their oil than it's People!!!

I just went through a Social Security Disability Hearing March 9th 2005. I still have Not heard anything either. It's no fun not having income for two years..

So, I Pray :prayer: that we all can Rest in Jesus for His Rest is what we all need. :)

It will get better I promise. Maybe this verse will help you too. God gave me this verse after I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

1 Peter 5:7-11 "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you. 8Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. 9Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. 10In his kindness God called you to his eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11All power is his forever and ever. Amen." :amen:

Hi, new here, and you're darn right I get down about it! I can't do anything and I hurt all the dadgum time. It's been over 9 years like this now and I'm young still. I don't want to get old! Even my doctor agrees with me on that one. Things will only get worse and worse and I already can't do much of anything. What the heck do I have to look forward to? (I mean in this world.)

Overall I keep my spirits up though. I avoid things and people that will bring me down and try to surround myself with things that bring my spirits up. I also try to keep my mind occupied on something - anything - so that I don't feel the pain so much.

I re-adjust my expectations and goals all the time. Heck, now I ask myself, "Self, am I too hot or too cold? Am I hungry? Am I thirsty?" If I'm warm, dry, and have food in my belly then I tell myself I'm ok but gosh, this is one heavy burden to bear!

how can you not get depressed when you're disabled? it's only natural to cry when you are hurting. I know, because I have severe arthritis in both knees. It's not a matter of not being depressed, it's a matter of working through the depression, and taking control of it instead of letting it control you. Thats where prayer and faith come in handy. Jesus knows your pain. He suffered pain, too. Don't be ashamed of asking for help when you need it.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever gotten depressed about being disabled? I have a physical disability and I also have depression that I'm thinking roots back to me being disabled. If so, how do you cope/get better (other than counseling/medicine)?

servant4ever

When I initially went on full disability for my back 4 1/2 years ago, I did question it and was mildly depressed.
After time passed I accepted it for what it was to me, A blessing to be able to be around and watch my son grow up.

When he was 4 months old I was working 2 jobs, taking care of a 210 acre farm, and 50 head of purebred Black angus cattle. I hardly saw my newborn son or my wife.
I feel God was telling me that it was time for a break and enjoy life. Kind of a hard way to do it but I believe I got the right message.
