Doubt I'll hang around here

With this whole name change etc (Don't really want to debate this) I doubt I'll hang around here.

Firstly I'm not a christian, by my main aim was to come and learn more about christianity.

Now this site is massively flamey and full of jerks at the best of time (good people also), but now it's moving away from Christianity - I really see no point.

There are plenty of sites were I can hang out with thousands of trolls and flaming threads and jerks and fights. I don't need another one.

As I said, main purpose of being here was to learn.

So if anyone knows of sites dedicated to christianity where a non-believer like myself can go, please let me know.

Well you already know my thoughts on this, and me yours. I haven't looked into it much but I will suggest http://christcenteredforums.net/forum/ as I did earlier, just repeating it here for those who are interested too and may read this thread. I haven't signed up yet, as I want to check with my wife first what she thinks about it, as I really enjoyed posting a lot here with her (CF, not Outreach). I am loath to break that up.

I understand the way you feel though. I was just talking to a friend about it, and we can't put our fingers on what exactly, but it just feels wrong here now.

if there is one thing I have learnt in this life, it's that you need to trust your instincts more.

Honestly if I was a Christian, I would see it as a move away from being centred on the religion. Not a good thing.

It is clear to me tha the owner is making gradual moves (may take years) but he will gradually get this board to a stage where he will sell it to a company.

What makes you think that the site is moving away from Christianity? I think it is moving closer to the very heart of Christianity: radical love, community, service in the name of God. Christianity isn't a name, or a set of rules, but rather an action and a firm belief.

As for the flaming and trolling, it will die out soon, or become lessened at least. Right now, people are venting anger and frustration, but soon they will either come to terms with the changes or leave to other places.

It's also a declaration of our allegiance, our faith. Something that the site has been stripped off. I have no issue with any of the other points, I have an issue in hiding our nature. I'm not a stealth Christian, I'm just a Christian, and that means I come along with God, Christ and all his laws and beliefs.

Well, I'm not entirely happy about the change either, but discussing that isn't the purpose of this thread- suffice it to say that this is still a Christian community, and an acceptable place for a non-Christian to come and ask questions. Better now, really, since non-Christians are no longer restricted to asking their questions within this rarely visited subforum.

Actually I would wager it's worse, since this form has strict rules to maintain a small semblance of order, rather than the free-for-all in the Philosophy and Ethics section not to mention any others. In all honesty if I was a non-Christian and came to one of those areas I would be totally put off as they are a disgrace.

Furthermore it's being removed from search engines, will be invite only and a branded as a social networking site, not a fellowship site. I think that's just one paving stone in place for a path that leads to an eventual commercial site that gets sold and is forgotten like the rest. I'm hugely disappointed to say the least.

Keen perceptions... Erwin has stated on other posts that his intent wasn't commercial. Ya never know.

I do know that he has been dealing with hyper-religiosity from every group here -- with each person having their own different dogmatic standards, conversation can get kind of repulsive. A neutral name keeps people from arguing adherence to what they believe to be Christian.
