It depends on the school.

If you've ever shared a room with a sibling, went to camp, or stayed at a friend's house, you're already familiar with sharing a room and all of the upsides and downsides that come with it.

Talk to your roommate about things like what time he wants the lights out, whether he's a neat freak or messy, pet peeves, etc. to avoid getting on each other's nerves.

I recommend going to study lounges or the library if you need some peace and quiet to study or work on assignments. The dorms can be a distracting place just because of the atmosphere. I just find it difficult to study in the same place where I sleep and chillax.

If you don't have a kitchen in your dorm area, check out the DIY YouTube videos on how to make all sorts of food in your dorm using permitted appliances.

If you can't have a coffee maker in your dorm and you like to drink it, get one of these

Good luck with your transition to college! :) Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

Wow, that is gay! My school is not listed on the site for text books. Anyways, Yeah I see what your saying. I pretty much know my roommate now and that shouldn't be a problem. I do have one question. Scholarships?

There are ALL kinds of scholarships. Based on everything from your GPA and test scores, to what sports and other things you may have done in school to name. Yes there are scholarships based on a particular name. Your parents' income also plays in into many government, school and private scholarships so it is important to look for income restrictions as they may or may not have them.

I know this. I already qualified for a full FAFSA as well as a scholarship for the school that I will be going to, taking half of the tuition chunk out of my hair. I just ask that maybe there was a scholarship out there without the catch of playing sports etc or explaining how merit scholarships work and how to apply for them?

As I said, there are ALL kinds of scholarship. The best thing to do is to look online at scholarship website, as each scholarship has their own rules and way to apply.

You need to type in the ISBN or the title of the book you're looking for.

Scholarships are typically either for athletes, merit-based (like National Merit), or need based (like FASFA). The military and ROTC are also great routes -- you can get scholarships in return for service.

If you go to a big school with far more qualified applicants able to pay for tuition than the school can admit, there's next to no scholarships. If you go to a smaller school (like some of the itty bitty newer schools that are still trying to get off their feet) they will offer much larger scholarships just for attending that particular school.

I knew I would not qualify for FASFA and as a libertarian, I don't agree with it, so I didn't even bother applying. I did get a $500 scholarship from a local contest that gave them away based on merit and an essay.

You can find little $100-$1,000 scholarships that are usually advertised at your school or on websites like College Prowler. Most of these will either ask for your GPA and class rank and/or have you write an essay. You'll get more from a part-time job, though, so I recommend working on weekends, over breaks, and during summer. Also be conservative with your money! Make a budget and stick with it. Find ways to save money through other means (like buying used books off eBay and Amazon, using coupons, shopping at thrift stores, etc.) Here's a more in-depth guide on getting through college debt-free: http://thestudiouslife.blogspot.com/2013/06/tips-for-getting-through-college-debt.html

A Dorm, or Halls as they're known over here, can be a lot of fun. It can be noisy sometimes, especially at night if there are parties going on. You're surrounded by other people your age with no parental guidance, you'll never enjoy such freedom again! I can't say much about roommates because I had my own room and bathroom in a flat of four, in a building of thirty-five.
