I was taking a short nap on my room floor(weird i know but i like taking naps on the floor cuz then I won't sleep for hours), when suddenly, I was drifting between being fully awake and sleeping. I opened my eyes but I couldn't move, and I was still a little drowsy.
Then all of a sudden there's this deep male voice in my head. But I didn't know what he just said and i immediately assumed it was God (because I'd always been desiring to hear God's audible voice).

So in my mind, I was asking "what is it you want?" but this very audible male voice repeated exactly what I said, in the exact same tone i was using, like it was helping me intercede or something. But the voice didn't reply and I continued saying in my mind "God speak to me, tell me what is it you want" and that voice once again repeated what I said, but very audibly I stress ( I could literally hear his voice like he was right beside my ear!). Then this authorative voice, which I assumed was God's, said something that I really couldn't decipher.
It was like jumbled english or something.

Then all of a sudden, I could hear devils laughing. Eerie. I was terrified. I felt that they were at my body's end, doing something to my legs or something but that was where their evil laughters were coming from. I tried rebuking them in Jesus' name many times, but failed to do so. I could feel some pain in my lower body that increased in intensity as the seconds went by, then suddenly it all stopped and I woke up with a jump.

Is this a spiritual attack? I didn't know where else to post this but I really needed to hear someone's opinions on this.

Yup, looks like a demonic attack. These are common w/new Christians. Once you enter God's kingdom, you've automatically become Satan's adversary, and he just likes to pick on all of us, new and older believers. Newer believers are just a little more vunerable.

I don't think the deep male voice was God. Number one, it mocked you by repeating your words and confused you. Sounds like the enemy. He was not "helping you intercede," looks like he was interfering w/your connection to God. Only the Holy Spirit helps us intercede and he does not bring fear but comfort.

The voice probably began to speak in another language to confuse you. His demonic audience was being entertained by your confusion and intense fear. They were attempted to cause physical harm by keeping you from moving (common tactic) and moving your legs around.

You were actually successful in rebuking them in Jesus' name. You were persistent in doing that. Demons can be very tenacious and sometimes they don't leave immediately, or just some at a time, but be assured that they cannot stand His name. So you did the right thing, kudos! Jesus undoubtedly stopped the attack and snatched you out.

Consider yourself blessed when attacks happens. That confirms that you are an enemy of Satan, which means being w/Christ. It also means that they are attacking you to keep you from something good, hoping you will shrink back in fear and confusion. So you're making progress in your walk, receiving something precious of the Lord, and they're just heckling you. Don't be afraid, they can't hurt you, they make it seem like they can. They love using fear. Just keep your focus on Him and trust Him, He'll fight your battles!

I had those all the time. I thought for the longest time they were demonic and sometimes still do. However, a few years ago I went in for an overnight and day sleep study. I am probably going to give you some incorrect information for I am not a sleep specialist. I would look more into it.

The World's explanation: What you described actually has a name, hypnogenic or cataplexy (but the kind that happens when you are actually between stage 1 or 2 and REM sleep. You are actually having both and I think your body has skipped stages 2 or 3 and 4...I could be completely off on the whole stage thing or why it happens. I think I remember: it's when you fall asleep and right away jump to REM sleep and skip the other pertinent stages. If it happens a lot, you are most likely missing the the slow wave delta sleep - stage 4. It was proven with me as I sometimes can have up to 8 REM periods a night and fall asleep within 6 minutes (almost diagnosible narcolepsy).

The following is the reason why I still believe it was spiritual and the demonic forces were getting in "the door" through my sleep disorder (sounds weird and I could be completely wrong). When I was going through these episodes, which started at age five but became very serious when I was a new Christian....surprise surprise, I finally said (or tried to say) could have been a thought, "In Jesus name leave me alone," and truly believed it started to happen less frequently. When I became stronger in my faith and laughed at it while saying or thinking, "You have no power over me for I belong to the true God in Jesus name...,"..something like that - it stopped - although it did try a few more times.

I know that sounds very strange to a lot of you and I sound completely off my rocker. For those who have experienced it, I would see a sleep specialist yet at the same time say, "In Jesus Name leave me alone." You need to truly believe those words and not let fear reign in you during those times or it will not work. That worked for me and I haven't had one of those episodes in a long time. I may again someday and will again, laugh at it and it will flee!!

Those episodes used to scare me so much, especially when you hear the denomic voices (one time three child like voices saying, "Get the apple, did you bite it..., etc." That was probably the most frightening. Oh and also the loud buzzing sound every time. So, it sounds like the original poster and I really have something in common.

I agree with vjaine. I thought the voice seemed to be mocking you more than interceding for you.

The pain in your lower body wasn't a demonic attack though. You were sleeping on the floor! Your legs were probably going to sleep or coming out of it, and that hurt a bit. Just happened to coincide with a not-so-nice dream. At least that's what I think it probably was.

The crazy devil laughing stuff may have been, but not the pain in your legs.

Or at least I wouldn't think so.

Sleep paralysis is a normal occurance when someone wakes up while still in REM sleep. It happens because you waking up directly out of a dream, so you keep dreaming for a few moments while you are awake. The paralysis happens because while in REM sleep your muscles are so relaxed they won't move for a while when you wake up.

I was just reading a page at www.cnn.com about scientists who investigated sleep/awake paralysis events like you had and they found that they could induce them almost 100% of the time by waking someone out of deep REM sleep, and the subjects almost always felt like an oppressive force was holding them down.

In American, people say they saw and heard demons and wild animals hold them down, in Indian they see evil ghosts holding them down, in Africa they see evil imps, beings that are half human and half demon, having the intelligence and feelings of a human but the spiritual body of a demon. Whatever culture you live in, that is the kind of evil being you will think is holding you down.

So it's nothing to worry about. Don't get scared by all these people who are trying to make you think demons are out to get you. That will make you crazy and it's just not true!

It's kind of scary that people would claim that they have knowledge of demons haunting you like that. I'm sure it must be against the rules to say something like that right off the bat in this forum, isn't it? I mean, what if a person with mental illness came here and got all this demon talk from some people and committed suicide because they thought they really were being attacked by Satan? That would be horrible!

Too much talk of demons makes the demons happy. As long as people are panicking and being afraid and thinking their normal bodily functions are manifestations of demons, they really win a battle without even having to lift a finger!

We all backslide at some time or another. Anyone who tells you different is a liar.

When you back slide, just get up and repent and all will be forgiven again.

It doesn't make sense that demons would attack you when you are backslidden, since you are already right where you do Satan the most good. Satan doesn't attack people who are already sinning, there would be no reason, you are already in sin.

If you are already saved, just ask God for forgiveness and he will forgive.
