Do you have any suggestions that might help to improve our communication? I'm open to new ideas and fresh approaches.

BFA

Let us each express our belief concerning the various subjects.

Let us not ask each other concerning agreeing or disagreeing with our individual presentations.

Here's my perception (and I may have completely misunderstood your intent):
I write a post.
You respond to my post with a series of texts.
I do not see the connection between the texts you've cited and my post, so I ask a question.
You respond to my post with another series of texts.
I do not see the connection between the texts you've cited and my question, so I ask another question -- this time trying to target my question in the hope of clarifying the source of my confusion.
You respond to my post with another series of texts.
What I'm hoping for is a bit more like a Sabbath School class and a bit less like a sermon. I'm cool with the fact that we don't agree on everything. I'm not here to change that. I would, however, appreciate some 2-way dialogue.

BFA,

It does not always happen in the order you have presented.

Many of your questions do not appear to me to be edifying to the Body of the Lord Jesus.

1 Tim 6:3-5
3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. KJV

I prefer to ask questions than to immediately assume that I understand the other person's point of view. However, to each his own. That's my approach and it doesn't have to be yours.

However, your post is rather enlightening and I really appreciate your open candor. I now have a better understanding why healthy communication between us has been so elusive up to this point.

BFA,

Consider the disciples at the time of the last supper.

John 16:29-30
29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
KJV

Jesus loved them, even though they still were about to flee to their own house. Afterward he gathered them back unto himself.

Your brother in the Lord Jesus,
Joe

Yeah for Ms Rice--she has hit on the true meaning of christianity & is through being
religious-

I had a similar reaction. In the past, I placed too much value on religion and spent too little time exploring who God really is.

Except, as soon as you begin to form ideas and insights and opinions as to who God really is, you have begun to create "religion."

Let us not draw back from "religion", but let us pass through its flaming sword and be crucified by it, that we might rise up and eat from the tree of life.

So what is the role of denominations/churches?

Are they "the body of Christ?"

Are they "the church" as defined in the New Testament?

Are they directly ordained by God (i.e. do they represent the structure God intended)?

BFA
BFA,

The visible churches and their visible operations are a net for the "fish" who inhabit the sea.

After the fish are divided on the dry land, then the "good" have to pass through the flaming sword of their humanly authorized ministers of church law to gain access to the tree of life.

Some ridicule this phase, others draw back in fear of the flaming sword of the angel.

The Lord has ordained the process and the agents of the different organizations, though some are being prepared for destruction, as was Judas, the treasurer of the first ordained leaders of the new covenant church. It must needs be, but woe be to him by whom it comes.

Thanks for your thoughts, Joe. We seem to have a very different understanding of the role of denominations/churches.

Anyone else have any thoughts on my questions? Are denominations/churches:
  • "The body of Christ?"
  • "The church" as defined in the New Testament?
  • Directly ordained by God (i.e. do they represent the structure God intended)?
