Christendom seems to be in a wave of hype, where teachings on taking care of each other is not top on the list.
Another things He asks of us is prayer for others. When I have friends praying for me, uncanny things happen -- someone will call me the same day I go through a crisis, with a resource suggestion or needed connection. There's plenty of "you were on my mind" at precisely the right times.
It's not a grandiose push-and-shove kind of mission, but a tightly intergrated network of little things that God and people do for each other.
