  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When God is your first priority always, and you are in a relationship, what are warning signs that God may be leading you out of it? I have been praying for a couple months now that God would put up some "road blocks" in my relationship if we aren't meant to be together forever. My logic in my prayer is to spare as much hurt as possible. Anyway, I'm not worried really right now that God could be answering my prayer but I want to listen as closely as I can to him because I know he knows what is best for me.

So what are some potential signs (or roadblocks) that God might be nudging you to get out, or take a new direction?

I think it's different for everyone really.

There is a flipside though that I can think of. Some roadblocks or signs might not necessarily be from God, but from life in general or the enemy. I know in my relationship it has been a God thing from the beginning, and there have been roadblocks, but once we work through it the fruit of it is great.

Another thing also is that you will be hurt, and we usually are hurt by the ones we love usually not even intentionally. I agree it's good to guard our hearts but we also can't proceed the relationship in fear of what just might happen or what might not happen. We are responsible to not worry about what tomorrow might bring, but live each day and have an earned tuned towards God. The only hope we can have is in God and not in what might happen or what might not happen. We can't live off what ifs.

So guard your heart (we are commanded to) and pray that God would show you what you need to know and that he'd give you wisdom. He'll direct you as you walk along, but we do need to trust him to do that and we can't live life in fear or worry (you didn't say you were so that is a very good thing.. but definitely don't want to go down that road!).

That's just my thoughts...

Very good advice, I appreciate it. You are definitely right when you say you can be hurt unintentionally. I find that to be true, for instance this week I realized that I was hurting and I didn't even know why. I asked God to show me what everything means and how to be wise and listen to him and after a couple of days, I realized that I was hurting because I realized how different my life is compared to my gf. She is at college, has tons of friends, having lots of fun, always busy and doing stuff with people. Me though, my life is much more regimented and bland. Im going to community college this semester so I don't get that dorm experience yet, I work part time, and practice insane amounts of hours on the piano in preparation for music auditions (hopefully) in a few months.

But what point in worrying? Why not just lean on God, perfect in all ways, instead of worrying about unknowns or current emotions? I'd rather put my faith in God.

Good point. Some warning signs can come without notice, so you have to leave the door open so that the mailman can put the mail in the box :) That's a good way to analogize the situation.

Let God be your whisper in your ear, he will kindly tell you if he doesn't approve of something :) God bless!

- You're feeling guilty a lot
- You're neglecting 'God-time' to be with them (or talk on the phone, whatever)
- Your christian relationships (especially with mentors or accountability partners) start to drop off

Now I'm not saying that you haven't thought of this, but keep in mind that God can give the go-ahead, and we as stupid humans can still stuff up a relationship beyond repair. And if God doesn't say stop, that doesn't necessarily mean that He thinks you two would be a good lifelong match. God has his own logic.

One thign i've learnt is sometimes God may have to break your heart to fix it. I was with a guy a bit over a year ago, we'd been together over a year just. I told god to do what what he must to get me close to him again. and he listened... He put discomfort in my bf's heart and it ended 2 weeks later... 6 months later i was still a wreak BUT i had a best guy friend who'd gone through it with me, and he loved me

In a year, we'll be honeymooning.

You see, god can plan for something so different from what you planned. let it flow, and god will have it right, even when it feels so VERY wrong.
