I'm happy that you are going to use a crate. My, Jake, uses the crate for bedtime and while we are gone. He has seperation anxiety and likes to get into things. I bought my crate at Walmart. They are just always cheaper. You may want to search eBay. But watch out for shipping. And definitely check the newspaper. That is the best advice you have been given.
Keeshonds are very energetic dogs. So I know you have your hands full. They just keep going and going.
He may not like it at first. He may bark and get frightened and start scratching at the door. Doing the treat thing will be a good way to introduce him to the kennel. When you bring one home, just leave it sitting there with the door open and whatever you want him to sleep on. I have a pillow and a couple of blankets in mine. Maybe later that day or the next day put a treat in there. When he goes to get it, and comes out, praise the heck out of him. Love him to death, make a huge deal over it. Keep this up. Then moving on for the next day or when you feel he is ready, use another treat and while he is going in, use the command for him to go in. Like Kennel or bed time. Give him another treat while he is in the kennel and then shut the door for thirty seconds or longer. Open it and praise the heck out of him again. You get the idea. Jake hated his kennel. He would bark and bark. Then I discovered that if I covered it with a blanket (sides and front) he would settle down. Now I don't have a problem. I usually have to carry him to the kennel. Anytime I try to get him and tell him it is time to kennel he will roll over on his side. Poor thing, he is submitting to me. But when I put him down, he will go straight in and plop down to sleep some more.
Good luck. I hope you can find a great deal and be able to purchase one very very soon. Let us know how it goes!
