  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Doesn't this peeve you?

I hope I'm not out of line in starting a thread like this, but... does it bother any of you when unbelievers refer to a Christian who believes fully in creation and intelligent design as "dumb", "superstitious", or "unappreciative of science and its contributions"?

After all, I believe faith and science can work hand-in-hand.

I guess it all boils down to the persecution the Bible speaks of.

You mean as in purely name calling apart from any interest in discussing the issues? So like you ask them questions since they are oblivious to what to ask you and you find that the bulk of their understanding is mainly from a vague remembrance of some 5th grade “science” text book? It happens… *shrugs* I think a lot of people are guilty of that on many topics these days. School has become the place to conduct social engineering, not education.

I am a member of a mainstream online community on which a variety of topics are discussed, from simple things such as food likes and dislikes to stronger issues such as politics and religion. There are both unbelievers and believers who are members of the site, and seeing that it is mainly secular Website, many of the secular (especially atheistic and agnostic members) really like to get their jabs in about Christians, in general, and this is one of the ways they do it.

As far as school is concerned, this was an issue I was faced with several years ago when I was in school, but what I'm talking about is not necessarily in schools, but on other forums and message boards (as well as with the people we may encounter in person), in which an unbeliever may refer to a believer in such ways, either directly addressing them, or speaking about them with their unbelieving "cronies". It's kind of hard to explain what I'm getting at.

Macro evolution has already been thoroughly disproved by Darwin's own standards. So generally I just feel really sad for those who have bought into the crap evolutionists cling to still today. It denies true pure science, which is actually a wonderful tool. But when you insist on taking God out of all possible equations you have to make up a lot of ludicrous theories and call them "fact" to make it palatable. They're missing out on a lot, and have trapped themselves in a tiny little box. Try not to take it too personally. Often it's all they have. Very, very sad.

Interestingly...the more true science progresses...the more the truth in Scripture is actually revealed which is why there are many agnostic and atheist scientist who become Believers. Well...those scientists that are actually looking for truth...rather than support for their preconceived ideologies and theories.

And sady...but not surprisingly...yes...much of this disdain you encounter is also noted in Scripture....and it's going to get exponentially worse.

I'm not peeved/irritated/annoyed in the least...I do more things to peeve others (Christians or not) in a day than they do me. I don't view their opinions as "persecutions" at all; their opinions do not cause me injury. If they make themselves my enemy then all the more I have to love them...

it's just not an issue for me, there are some places where faith and current scientific theory clash and I have no problem admitting that faith takes precedence for me. I know that some will think I'm stupid.

I know what you mean though WannaWitness, I have also seen highly insulting comments on message boards I frequent, like the classic "I just think that anyone who believes in religion must be a bit dim. Sorry, I just do."

There's not much you can really say to someone with that attitude is there?!

I am not a cannibal! You have to be stupid to believe that!
I am a cannibal. The Pagan Romans said so.

That the heathen think I am stupid doesn't bother me in the least.

I figure that they killed Jesus so we should rejoice in their contempt.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

That's what just happened to me at another site. They reckon I'm stupid and deluded to believe that God created everything, because the "evidence" doesn't support it, so I'm nuts to believe that there was an Adam and an Eve.

Whatever, I am prepared to have that clash where faith takes precedence over those who say science doesn't point to a Creator. They call it cognitive dissidence, but I don't hold the two together, if science says "no creator" then I have no hesitation in dismissing it and believing God.

The problem, I think, is that many Christians who know little about science get involved in these discussions with atheists who have a good scientific background, and try to counteract their arguments logically. Obviously it won't work, science and faith, whilst not by any means mutually exclusive, are entirely different things. It's like comparing apples and oranges.. pointless.
Faith is a gift of God, and arguing about scientific evidence is not going to bring anyone to faith. Those Christians with a scientific background can possibly refute some arguments here, but tbh, there are so many much more important and worthwhile ways to establish the kingdom of God!
