  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Not really, christ wasnt a part of it in ancient times anyway. Besides they arent saying you cant practice it with christ, just trying to open things up to be fair for everyone else.

Merry Yule everyone, may Cybele bless all :)

What annoys me is when the PC brigade decide that they wont have Christmas carols or christmas cards or anything to do with "Christmas" incase we upset other faiths...grrrrrr

So is it wrong to be a christian now?...I Accept that we must always be sensitive to others needs I think people go to far sometimes!!!

Ha Ha... Politically Correct people are always so funny. It's not like we say "hey, you can't wear that skullcap in here!" to a Jewish person, or get sniffy when we see chinese new year banners.
How could the expression of our end of year festival possibly upset anyone else? And if a few people are upset about it, then they probably deserve to be for being so intolerant.

The real problem with christmas these days is the rampant commercialism. It's not Merry Christmas, it's MerryChristmasNowCheckOutTheseGreatBargains,They'reReallyReallyCheap,

We actually have know idea when Jesus was born, although it was probably in the Spring since Scripture tells us that the shepards were in the fields keeping watch over there sheep. They sometimes get snow in Isreal during the winter--you don't put sheep outdoors in that kind of weather. In addition it is doubtful, again because of the cold weather, that the Roman Empire would have people go to be enrolled during the wintertime.

I seem to remember reading--although I forget the source--that Christ's birth was first celebrated by the Church in Egypt and that the celebration occurred in April or May.

Everybody is talking about how hostile the holidays are to Christians. I guess I just don't see it.

And everyone -- Happy Holidays is NOT a euphamism for Merry Christmas... Happy Holidays includes New Year's, too.

Personally, as far as people going 'Merry Christmas!' or 'God Bless you!' or whatever, it doesn't really bother me. I consider it idiomatic. I know what it is someone means. When someone asks me, 'What are you doing on Wednesday?' I don't wig out and go, 'Woden? I don't believe in Woden! Don't ask me that, you crazy witch-doctor!!'

You mean like the lights strung across Liverpool city centre depicting the nativity, two cathedrals and the words "Liverpool - City of Faith"? Read The Sun much? :sigh:

Well I believe the government is interfering with our freedom of speech.
They censor and no longer able to sing carols in some places etc.
I say do something a little more constructive if they must censor..... censor porn.
Sorry off topic.

If Christ is taken out of Christmas, I think it should be just another day; no celebration at all. I'm tired of a few people trying to control the minority and change what has been the same for Lord knows how long, because they don't want to look at it or say it. Simple answer for yas: If ya don't like it, don't look at it!

Nobody's proposing to stop Christians celebrating Christmas in their own way. But the fact is that for a lot of people, Christmas is not a religious thing anymore, it's a time for family (and over-indulgence ;)).

I know this is cruel, but you are a hypocrite.

Were you talking to me?
I don't consider myself a hipocrite.
If you were talking to me I was just speaking what I believe.
If that makes me a hipocrite then I am a hipocrite.

First, I'll say that I made a mistake. I meant MAJORITY, not minority. Second, I still stand by my opinion: If you don't like it, don't look at it!

"If ya don't like it, don't look at it!" - good advice. But I wonder if you'd take the same position regarding (for example) public nudity? I have a feeling not. In my experience, people tend to take the position you advocate only when the thing under discussion is something they agree with.

But perhaps I'm wrong. So how about it? Public nudity - if ya don't like it, don't look at it?
