  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does this insult you ?

Like it did me. Im a member in another forum,, a car forum. One member had an avatar of a penguin beside his name . BUT , on the penguins head, he had cropped in goats horns. And on the penguins chest , he placed an upside down Cross. He was told it was offensive to Christians . He understood, and removed the image. But then along comes two other members, one who says hes a devout Catholic who feels God cured him of his cancer , is a firm believer , and began a tirade DEFENDING the inverted cross and goat horns, and went as far as to add them to HIS OWN avatar. The second guy is pretty much the same , added them to his avatar as well. Here are the definitions of what the images symbolize :

Upside Down Cross - Symbolizes mockery and rejection of Jesus.
Goat Head - The horned goat, goat of mendes, Baphomet, god of the witches, the scapegoat. It's a Satanists way of mocking Jesus as the "Lamb" who died for our sins.

So if these guys are Christians, HOW IN THE HELL CAN THEY DEFEND THESE SYMBOLS??? I can post a link if anyone likes,, there are 2 threads, both eventually locked by the mods after they got heated.

The upside down cross is not a rejection of Jesus. The upside down Crucifix IS. The upside down cross is a remembrance of St. Peter who was crucified upside down. The upside down crucifix is what has recently turned into the symbol for satanism. Peter's crucifixion could be to what those people were referring to.(wishful thinking)

As for the goat horns, well I don't know about that symbolically.

The upside down cross is easy to defend, as the Pope sits in the "Chair of Peter", and Peter was crucified upside down:) It is a symbol of humility, as Peter felt unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as our Lord Jesus Christ.

The goat horns, I'm not sure about:scratch:

Well You haven't exactly told us what their position was on it. Did they defend it saying it was his right as a freedom of speech thing?
I mean I do agree that it is rather offensive to say the least if not downright appalling but it would help to know what their position was on the matter. If they were defending the images then no, I do not agree. If they were defending someones freedoms then they have a point although I believe by taking on the avatar themselves they went a little too far. Ok so a lot too far.

I don't usually look at the avatars of others, I think folk offend too easily. I could be very offended by some of the things some Christians have said to me since I joined CF, because they do not like my liberal Christian philosophy, but life is too short to bother much about the badmouthing of others unless I think they are valid. For heavens sake these forums are a bit of fun for when we have nothing better to do, surely?

I would say that these forums (CF and others like it) are primarily for those seriously seeking Christian Truth and not merely a place to go to kill some time and get one's kicks when there is nothing better to do. But I do understand your point, I think. Sometimes we are too thin-skinned.

Sure they do. I've personally witnessed many, many conversions to Christ through forums like this ... some here on CF specifically. Maybe you haven't visited the "serious" areas of these forums, where serious issues are seriously discussed?

Are you kidding me? I have spent like 6 weeks glued to this board and I have learned SO much in that time! I certainly would never take time away from my life like that for something I didn't take seriously. :)

Then I guess I'll take the risk of getting "seriously screwed up", as I tend to take seriously discussing Christian Truth and speading the gospel through these forums. ;)

It doesn't bother me that much. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. For instance, if you have a cross-avatar at another forum, that's bound to insult someone, would you be willing to take your cross off?

It's nice that the original poster took off his avatar, but it wasn't necessary.

Well, since someone asked, I'll answer about the penguin reference. In a context like this board, it's usually a sarcastic depiction or reference to nuns. As for taking this board seriously....it's like any other part of life or the world - some of it is worth taking seriously, some isn't. The religious sections are pretty serious. The political and news sections are fun to "fight" and agrue in, but honestly, most of the people are a little um, "off" who really participate a lot in those sections. My .02. M

I knew that the inverted cross was easily defended, but I couldn't fathom how the horns could be defended since the represent satan in popular thought . . I will have to read the link . . . . :)

Peace in Him!

Do you know what I think guys since the OP to this thread was in here for the longest time yesterday that he was part of one of those that he spoke of in the OP and that he brought it here because they kept closing it down in the other site so he wanted to see what would happen here.....
Just a feelin I have.....
because he was asked for further clarfication several times and offered none. Instead he just kept hoping the thread would continue into debate, because it was oblique....
