It is normal for heart rate to be quite variable between inhalation and exhalation when a person is not stressed, especially during an altered state of consciousness. This might be perceived as heart palpitations. Google heart-rate variability for more information.
I've done HRV biofeedback training in the past and it can produce those types of sensations. And I've also had similar feelings sometimes in other settings. It is actually normal to feel emotions in your body like that.
It wouldn't hurt to get a checkup just to be sure. Especially if there is any kind of pressing or squeezing sensation, shortness of breath, etc.
