To get an answer on the $15/hr min wage issue, people need to be polled or to have voted. Several cities have passed the $15/hr min wage ordinance. The first I read about was Seattle. I have also read that chain restaurants have gone into high gear to get robots to replace $15/hr workers. It probably did more to further the science of robotics than to help workers as there is now a ready-made market for robots that never existed before.

What I don't understand is why someone who works, someone who contributes positively to the richest society in the history of mankind, isn't automatically entitled to at have his family live above the poverty line.

Because its not that simple,we live in(for now) a free society where entitlement is not the dominant mechanism by which people receive things, that is changing but believe me when everybody is entitled to everything few will have anything.

The antichrist system of the world will soon promise something just like that .
It has been coddling people for over a century to prepare them.
It offers men a lot in exchange for their souls,
and usually gets their souls without any struggle.

Remember Yeshua is not ruling most of the world yet,
but Yeshua is ruling only a few, the remnant, on the narrow road to life.

Your understanding of economics leaves much to be desired, like a child shopping with mommy you think all the money in the world is in mommys purse

that's a good soundbite but otherwise meaningless...

Meaningless to one who thinks their entitled to everything regardless of what they produce,if what you produce is in demand and produced by you alone you become wealthy,if what you produce is in demand and produced by many you will only get a small portion.

I'm not talking about entitlement, and I certainly never suggested "everybody is entitled to everything", not sure where you got that from.

All I'm saying is that if you work for our society, you deserve to live above the poverty line.

The antichrist system of the world will soon promise something just like that .

Shouldn't the good and just, the Christians in our society, be supporting a living wage for all the members of our society who contribute to that society? Are you suggesting the Anti-Christ is the one we should look to when we want fairness in the world?

It has been coddling people for over a century to prepare them.
It offers men a lot in exchange for their souls,
and usually gets their souls without any struggle.
10 million children under the age of 9 die every year. Roughly 800 million people do not have enough food to live a healthy life. I don't call that "coddling".

There is no fairness in the world, nor in churches... that's another story. (remember Jesus was not fair).

Who is good and just? "There is none good but Yhwh" as Yeshua spoke.
None-the-less, Yhwh's people , Jews first and then gentiles,
are extravagantly generous (not just in paying good wags)
all over the world IF you can find them. (they are rare and few, on the narrow road to life; as rare as LOT was in his day, as rare as Abraham was in his day, and as rare as the Apostles and disciples WHO DIED FOR THEIR FAITH were in their day.)

Soon more than a billion 1,000,000,000 (a million million) men women and children will die.
(Read through the Book of Revelation, chapters 1 through 21).

One reason so many millions have died for their faith in the last 40 years,
and so may more millions have died of starvation, thirst, famine, disease and war
is because people have been deceived for so long
and
just like in the days of Noah, everyone keeps going their own way doing what is "right in their own eyes" and NOT seeking Yhwh nor seeking Jesus.

Meanwhile, the antichrist system has been put in place (to be enforced or whatever happens)
and those who opposed it were silenced.
The antichrist system has offered 'benefits'? and also 'sickness' (for free) and so on without any substance in truth or in God or in Jesus.

That's too bleak for me.

A million million is a trillion, not a billion.

People have predicted the end times since the beginning times, and they haven't been right yet.

That's too bleak for me.
The facts are much, much , much (many magnitudes) WORSE.

Almost NO ONE can handle the Truth when it is revealed.
Almost No one. (so basically EVERYONE denies it, and gets patted on the back and told they are okay)

But,
It is devastating and embarrassing and required for life to learn.

Actually there is both a short scale and a long scale billion. The US uses exclusively the short scale which would be a thousand million, but the long scale is a million million.

What I have never understood from $15 minimum wage supporters is what makes $15 the magic number.

When it is questioned whether businesses will be able to support paying their employees $15 per hour, the response is just that those companies are greedy, and if they overlook their greed they could afford to do it.

But that argument seems pretty independent of $15. Why not advocate for a $20 wage, or $30 or $50 or $100?

If you say that it is absurd to push wages so high, because at that point companies could legitimately not afford it, how do you know that the level of what companies are able to afford isn't below $15?

Finding the minimum wage should be an optimization problem, since clearly there must be a maximum workable minimum wage and the first thing we would want to know is what that is. Such problems require looking very closely at the state of the economy to find the specific boundary point. But I've never seen any such analysis used to argue for a $15 wage. It's just a magic number pulled from seemingly nowhere.

For me, it's an improvement, but I like it. As I've said earlier, imo anyone who contributes to our society deserves to live above the poverty line. If the multi-billionaires need to give up a bit to make that happen, then so be it, it's only fair.

So you'd support a $20 minimum wage then?

Higher?

I'm not sure what is considered the poverty line, but the wage should be high enough so that anyone who works and contributes to our society can feed their family a healthy diet, can keep a dry roof over their head with the basics such as electricity, heat, plumbing, etc., good healthcare and good education. I'm not saying a bunch of extras, just the basics.

It could happen in many ways, depending on what the government covers, and other issues.

Most business owners aren't multi-billionaires.
