  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does the Bible Require Blind Faith?

There is a very popular notion that belief in God requires BLIND FAITH.
Blind Faith means belief without no evidence at all. However, despite its popularity, that isn't the reason why we as Christians are told we should believe in God's promises or existence. Instead, creation itself is offered as basis for our convictions:

Romans 1: 20
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

...and previous prophecies fulfilled as an assurance that God does keep his promises.

2 Peter 1:19New American Standard Bible (NASB)
19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.

Three basic Scriptures -
What IS FAITH - Heb 11:1
How does FAITH Come - Rom 10:17
How is FAITH Applied - Mark 11:22-24

FAITH is NEVER "Blind", and is invariably based on God's WORD to you.

Eph 2:8,9 - You are saved by FAITH, and that not of yourselves. It's the Gift of GOD. NOT of Works, lest any should boast.

But strange as it might seem, there are Christians who respond to accusations of having blind faith by agreeing that they have blind faith via statements such as:

""Ï don't need any evidence-I know!""

""If the Bible says it it's good enough for me!""

"Blessed is he who needs no proof!""

Such responses cause atheists to feel justified in classifying Christians as irrational.
The sad part about it is that such responses misrepresent what the Bible tells us is the basis for our faith.

Proverbs 14:15

The simple believe anything but the prudent give thought to their steps.

My current theological beliefs have similarities to those of Albert Einstein. Strictly in the sense, if you let your thoughts reach out, someone will reach back and the answer is found in events where the correlations are unmistakable, and the chances are astronomically improbable.

Someone is out there who will go as far as pull the strings of the Universe just to tell you in particular that it cares.

Yes, Albert Einstein did believe in a creator. What he did not believe was in a creator as religions described him. That is a very fine nuance which atheists who wish to claim Einstein as their own can't seem to understand.
