Just what to know what you think.

My family & I were talking about the Bible yesterday and the question came up.
Since Christ was alive for @33yrs. Then how do we deal with his activities not noted in the Bible?
Joh 21:24-25 KJV
(24) This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
(25) And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

...We have to believe that everything we need to know was given to us. :)

You don't deal with them because God felt it was not important enough to be placed in the bible. The bible is what we learn from. God is more intrested in us reading what is in His word, rather than questioning why something is not in His Word.

I think it is absolutely fine to question and ask God why and possibly get an unsatisfactory answer. David wrote many psalms of disorientation where he didn't understand why God did things the way he did. Thomas was not condemned for his doubt but Jesus used his doubt as a teaching moment.

With that said, I am absolutely sure that there are many things that Jesus did in his life and ministry that would be really great for us to read about, but unfortunately for one reason or another, were not recorded in the gospels. We can speculate why that is but in the end, it is our faith in the inspiration of the bible that determines how we approach Jesus' life as it is presented in the gospels.

Not to sidetrack here, but the Holy Spirit has given us 4 gospels for very specific reasons. The differences between the gospels is not because of some hap-hazzard writing, rather each addition or deletion is in complete harmony with the purpose for that gospel.

A study in these differences is fascinating. It again shows that the Bible is an inspired book.

I just want to add that I don't think its wrong to question what is not in the bible.
I think it would be there if it was important enough. If I came across like it was wrong to question, that was not my intention.

No problem. I just wanted to help clarify what could have been a misunderstanding.

I asked this same question some years ago. The answer I got was, "Everything He did is not in the Bible, but everything that He wanted us to know that He did is in the Bible." So while we don't have every waking moment and every miracle, we do have everything that Jesus wanted us to have... I think that's a good way to look at it.

You stole my thunder BT. That is almost what I was going to say. I 100% agree with what you said. There are the 16 years from the time Jesus was 14 until He was 30, some call them "the silent years." And in those silent years, you cannot honestly believe Jesus went mute.

No, I don't think so. There is virtually nothing mentioned about the time after His birth to the Wedding at Cana. There are some snippets of things, but there is nothing about His friends or how He related with His siblings or what He did as a carpenter or why He was well-thought-of enough to be invited to the wedding. I think the Bible tells us enough to know Jesus and what He was like. It also tells us enough for us to understand the ideas that God wanted us to understand.
