does taking medication say i dont trust in god?? help needed

Hello. from time to time i can often suffer from slight depression and also have a condition called vulvodyina. The depression can be caused from vulvodyina and i think it is the case seeings i have to much to be happy about and dont know why i become the way i become about certian things in my life.
Anyway..... I was told from sites and doctors that a low antidepresants can help reduce vulvodyina.
And so i went to the doctors who gave me some low anti- depressants. I took them for a month and they seemed to help alot in many diffrent ways. But i often felt bad as i want Jesus to be the one who heals me and take away my pain. I felt that taking them is saying that i dont trust him. And have stopped taking them because of that. I want to learn to trust God and i want him to heal me and make me a new person. Should i be taking these pills or shouldnt i that is the question i keep asking myself and dont know what to do about it. I havnt told my family about this and the only one who does know is my husband and my brother . I would really like some adivce. Thank you in advance and God bless. From Ruth. I believe God has intrusted these sciencetist and doctors with gifts that help make the medicines and help diagnose. So the way I see it God does have a part in the medicines that help the sick.

I think that way too. But if i start i dont want to be on it to the point i cant be going without it. I dont want it to replace what i believe god is ment to be able to help me with.

Medication is a tool. Sometimes when we come accross a struggle in our lives, we find that we just don't have all the tools we need to make it work naturally. what medication does for us is give us another tool or two so that we can live healthily and more fully. It doesn't replace G-d or show that you don't trust Him... it's a way for G-d to help you live.

If your doctor perscribes the right medication for you, you shouldn't have to be dependant on it. My body became dependant on an anti-depressant ocne and that's because it wasn't the right one. There are many many kinds out there and it's worth trying some out. Also, medication alone doesn't solve anything... but a healthy spirituality and perhaps a bit of help through counseling, prayer, and other people coming along side you can really complete the package.

Something just occured to me. For someone with depression, medication can be like insulin for a diabetic. Would you tell a diabetic that they aren't trusting G-d by taking insulin? I would hope not. Getting help with depression is like getting help with other medical issues. G-d provides resources for us, and we can praise Him for it and use them joyfully.

I agree that taking medication is not an issue of trust or faith in God. It is a tool to make life work for some. The knowledge that doctors have has been granted to them by God. Maybe the answer to all the prayers thrown up in desperation by those with depression and other illnesses has already arrived in the form of the medication.

All I know is that I have a number of family members who would not be here today if they didn't take medication and others who would have completely lost their faith in God entirely if they had allowed themselves to be devoured by unmedicated depression.

If that were the case, half of us would be dead by now.
Yes, God can heal. But God also gave us the knowledge of medicine. It's still His healing, but in a more..... phisical sense.

Same here. I'd be relying on my faith in God to keep my children safe and fed while tried not to weep and vomit from the migrain pain which can last hours to days. I take meds to get through them so I can do my job as a mother. Just as God did His job as a Father by sharing His knowledge with us so that we can be healed or atleast have our pain subsided.

I absolutely agree with eirene. So many people feel like emotional/mental wellbeing is seperate from health which I believe is completely wrong. Feeling guilty and not taking medicine that could help you isn't going to help you get over your problem, instead trust in God and use the resources that He has seen fit to bless you with. Abuse of these meds doesn't have to be an issue. I believe God and prescription anti-depressants can coexist when both are given their due.

Let's say a guy is stranded on a rooftop during a flood and has prayed to the Lord to save him. A boat full of rescuers soon arrives. Would the man be guilty of not trusting God if he got in the boat?

Of course not. He prayed to be rescued, and God sent the rescuers there to help him. The Lord's purpose for those rescuers' lives was to help people just like it is the Lord's purpose for doctors to help people.

If I was in your situation, I would research the side effects of the drugs you are considering taking and then weigh the pros and cons of taking the drugs versus the pros and cons of not taking them.

I don't see medication as any indication at all that we don't trust in God. To say that would be to equate shopping for groceries or clothing as not trusting God to provide us with our needs.

God blessed you with doctors who could diagnose your health problems and give you treatment for those problems, why not see that as God working in your life? Scripture says that every good and perfect gift comes from God - so if you can say that you've been blessed with the ability to seek and take treatment then its no stretch to say that that is God providing for you.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with everyone else. Taking medication is not a sign that you don't trust God, it's a sign that you're doing your best to take good care of His temple (you). Depression is an illness, and taking medication is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.

Even Paul had an ongoing medical condition (2 Corinthians 12:8-9) that he had to endure; let it be a reminder of your weakness and God's strength, but don't be a silly goose and stop taking your meds! They're good for you

Everything belongs to God, including technology. I believe that God has given these scientists/doctors the abilities they have for a reason...we should rely on HIM, obviously, for all healing, but sometimes that healing comes through medicinces!!! If I had the plague and there was a known cure for it, I'd take it!!! If I live on earth longer, I can minister for Him longer! I personally have an incurable problem with brain damage...it makes me dizzy all the time and often makes me pass out/collapse. If there were a cure for it so that I could walk straight all the time, be able to close my eyes at times other than when I'm laying down or sleeping, you BET I'd take the meds!!! I want to be top-notch for Christ, so, if that cure comes along I will, in the meantime, I trust Him...if you can take something that will help your health and enable you to be more balanced physically or emotionally, do it!!! (But, that's just my thoughts... )

I need to take my meds, or else I can get angry and the lights start to blink off and on and the appliances don't work. Once, Mommy and Daddy were fighting, and I had forgotten to take them for three days, and I got so angry that I started hearing noises and the house started shaking. I passed out, and afterward Daddy told me that the whole block lost power. Now I make sure I take my pills and I'm always happy. Daddy says he hasn't had to take change any light bulbs for a month . . .

Taking medication for depression can help alleviate the baggage, but from what I am told it helps to look elsewhere for the cause of the problem. Like counseling. At least, that's what my doctor told me.

I agree 100% with maycontainnuts(it won't let me quote her for some reason)! I don't think it's a matter of not trusting God. Perhaps one day you could stop taking them but while you are praying about it wouldn't it be nice to be feeling OK? I will freely admit that I took a low dose of anti-anxiety medication when I was finishing up my undergraduate degree because I got to a point that I couldn't function properly. I only took them for 5 months and then my doctor and I decided to see how I would do without them and I was fine. My problem was brought on my stress, and I realize that I could have prayed through it, but if your brain chemistry is off then I don't see how it is any different than a diabetic taking insoline!

If you cut yourself really badly and were bleeding all over, would it be not trusting God to put a bandage on it? No, that thought is silly. I very much understand how you feel though, because I am two different medications for anxeity and depression and I struggled with thi question very much when I was first taking them. Don't stop taking them though, that can have very bad effects....I tried that once and it was very bad.

I think it depends on the person and where they're at in their faith.
I was at a place recently where God challenged me to either trust him or trust medication. I trusted him, threw the tablets down the toilet and he healed me as I walked out of it in faith. And this was a very serious situation (severe nerve fragmentation in my head that could have put me in an asylum or killed me).
I chose to trust him and he came through. If I hadn't, I hate to think how much more difficult my walk would have been and how sick I'd still be.
God can and does use medication and doctors and thats great. But he also says 'by his stripes you have been healed'. It's something that he made provision for through faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross.

It's up to you which you choose, and it can very much be where God's taking you at the time. God waited a lot of years before he challenged me on this one and I've been a christian all my life. My suggestion to you would be to pray about it and then go with what God says, not what other people say.
