  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm referring to actual evidence, not a silly documentary with an agenda. Maybe next I should watch the "documentary" on ancient aliens?

Suit yourself.

You clearly don't have an agenda at all - spending your time on a site called Christian Forums and mocking Christians.

Your like a machine gun with your questions. Lets start with one word and we can explain that. Most every word in the Bible when it comes to creation would take a whole book to understand and explain. You ask: "How do you explain the "year" reference God made on the day He created the heavenly bodies? " The work God did on day four was in the firmament. The firmament effects the light as it passes through the atmosphere. Even the ocean filters out light. That is why for the most part the ocean is blue because most all the other colors are filtered out.

"literal, bodily return of Jesus Christ." I believe in a literal return of Jesus based on what the Angels said as He departed. Most likely His return will be somewhere around the year 2036.

Since we can't do time travel,
God is outside of time, so He can go back in time. If for example someone needs healing from a event or incident that happened to them as a child then they can pray for God to go back to that point in time to bring about the healing they need.

Sorry, I am not going to waste time on nonscientific story telling. And there were no plagues of Egypt. People record those things. You and I both know that you cannot support your claims with actual evidence.

And I care about "the truth" far more than you do. Since I started out as a Christian I would have been much happier if it supported the Bible, but when you look at it openly and fairly the Bible is clearly lacking.

Okay ... use the Flood then.

Why ask for the mechanics behind how the Grand Canyon was formed, if you don't believe the Flood was global in the first place?

Why would a person, who can barely add, ask someone to explain calculus to them?
Good point. Let's assume for a bit that your God is real. Why would he tell people that could not understand even the concept of a simple cell how they evolved? Why would he tell people that do not even understand simple erosion and deposition how plate tectonics works? Clearly if there was a God he could not have explained to terribly much to a bunch of sheep herders. Simple morality tales make much more sense. And then you would not have to deal with a "lying God". When you claim that God made the Earth so that it "looks old" you are claiming that God lies. If the Earth was not old there would be no reason to make it seem that way. Literalism leads to a lying God, something that most Christians have a huge problem with.

You stopped a bit prematurely. We can also gather evidence that the past events produced, and then use that evidence to test our hypotheses. Perhaps you have heard of this. It is called the scientific method.
No you can't and the method you cite is better referred to as the deny and ignore God, the spiritual, and history method. You impose bad beliefs on evidence, and turn around and expect a medal for so doing.

I care about the truth, and the truth is, there's zero archaeological evidence to support a literal Exodus story. Nada.
The truth is God lead the operation personally, and He doesn't leave messes as you expect. LOOK AT MANNA!

I think the term you're actually looking for is deceitful rather than "lying", but otherwise I agree with you. In fact I've used that very same argument.

I think it's pretty simple and you are overcomplicating it. I wasn't asking you about the mechanics of light in the atmosphere.

I'm saying, if your day 4 is an indeterminately long age, what did God mean when He referred to seasons and years? And, for that matter, dividing the day from the night? How do you take this if you insist on day 4 being a long age?

Genesis 1:14-15
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.

Great. I don't know your eschatological views, but no matter how bad the Tribulation is (if you see it, as I expect to), please don't let anything convince you otherwise. It isn't worth it.

Hey, you guys ought to look at a chapter that has advanced physics in it, that is still above modern science's wildest dreams. Not only that, but the section is even spoken directly by God no man involved! Do I need to cite the reference or do you know what I mean?

Israel conquered most of them. The movie mentions two towns specifically where the archeology matches the Biblical account.

"Towns"? You think the nation of Egypt only had towns for enemies? I'm talking about entire nations...

Rahab gives us a picture of how the nations trembled. She survived because she feared God and helped the Israelite spies. She ended up being in the line of David and Jesus.

She survived because she was a prostitute -- one who sells her body for coin is equally negotiable regarding her loyalties.

Plus, considering that Jericho had, at most, 2500 people, it's a safe estimate that about 500 of them were soldiers... pit that against the the 6,000 Israelite troops waiting just outside the walls, and Rahab was probably fearing something a lot closer than God...

In the words of the prophet Bob Dylan, "you don't need a Weatherman to know which way the wind blows..."

But of course, when one is writing war stories, well... expect a little embellishment.

If God created a loaf of raisin bread ex nihilo, did He lie?

After all, raisin bread contains raisins (aged grapes).

Bad analogy. Why would he? It is not a valid comparison. We know why raisin bread is made with raisins. You need to show why a planet has to be made to look old if you want to use this, until then it is a failed analogy.
