I would read the Isaiah verses to show that Jesus blended in with the people of his time. Physically, he didn't stand out from other people as far as we know. There isn't anything about my avatar or standard images of Jesus that make him out to be a model.

With regard to long hair on men, any standard for what constitutes long or short has to be a man made one. Any Christian is free to impose such restrictions on himself. There is no justice in imposing personal standards on others.

Come on now. Reallly? It's what God's Word says. Were you looking to simply justify your own reasons to keep your avatar or were you honestly wanting to know the truth?

Maybe both. A search for truth is never fully objective.

Then you are disqualified from making the right choice (Unless of course you ask God about it and you are willing to see that you could be wrong). Most of the time, people are wrong about things because they are biased towards a certain way of thinking with no real proof that such a thing is true.

One would expect a Democrat to have a stone age avatar. :D

I don't think it is funny. Why should a Christian promote a lie? Cavemen are a lie of Evolution. Why would somebody want to side with that kind of lie? You also do not seem to care that Jesus was white, black, or any other color. Yet, we know Jesus was Jewish and he needed to be kissed among his disciples so as to identify him. Jesus did not stick out among his people. He was an Israelite and blended in among them. Nowhere did the Pharisees ever make fun of Jesus for Him looking different than they did. To say that Israelites looked like white Europeans is just silly. To say that he looked like a hippie is even more silly. But believe whatever you like. The safer play is that you should not push any image of Jesus because we do not know what He looked like. But you do not seem to care about that. You like your avatar and find it funny. I find your avatar as an insult to my Lord Jesus Christ. It is a joke about Jesus. I would never want to make fun of my Lord. Why would you want to do that is beyond me.

Reading your posts, it's clear that you are not free of bias. Why pretend otherwise?
You noted in an earlier post that Christ did not turn water into actual wine. We know from 1 Corinthians 11 that Christians were warned against taking the wine intended for the Lord's Supper and getting drunk with it. How were they in danger of getting of drunk of only grape juice was being served?

There is a difference between siding with the goodness of God vs. siding with something that insults God and mocks Him.

You said:

It's because you are reading that portion of Scripture with alcoholic glasses. If you were to re-read 1 Corinthians 11 as talking about grape juice it still makes sense. Nothing in that chapter mentions how they were intoxicated and falling down and puking their guts out and getting into drunk driving accidents with horses.

1 Corinthians 11:21-22 says,
"For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in?"

Okay, if Paul is talking about them getting drunk (as we understand that today), then is he saying, "Do you not have houses to eat and get drunk in? No. Drunkenness is a sin. If they were drunk, then why didn't Paul rebuke and correct the Corinthians on them being drunk specifically?

Ug, my avatar cannot be an idol because he represents a stone age ape man that never existed.
It would be an idol if you bowed down to it or worshipped it. Some pagan idols were images of mythical things, but they were still idols.

Personally, I don't think it's a great idea to have images of Jesus. In educational settings, such as movies that help bring the Gospels to life, it's hard to avoid them. But I agree that it tends to make us think of whoever played Jesus in the film, which isn't really a good idea.

I would never have criticized the OP for his avatar, but I wouldn't use it myself.

Yes, in another thread I would strive not to seek to make it personal by discussing a person's avatar unless it was something that looked really evil. But he was asking for criticism involving his avatar. So here we are discussing the truth on whether or not his avatar is biblical and moral. I do not think his avatar is in line with the Bible and morality. I find it offensive. But then again, many people think of Jesus as a white hippie and they promote that lie. But just because alot of people believe something does not make it right.

As far as I know, it is impossible to get drunk at all on grape juice, falling down or otherwise.

You have to understand that people are confused because the Bible (KJV) was written in 1600's English (Which influence all other Modern Translations).

For example: I can say, "Rick had drunken all the water."
This does not mean Rick was intoxicated.

21 "For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken [i.e. satiated entirely with whatever substance used at the Lord's supper].
21 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not."
(1 Corinthians 11:21-22).

Paul says have you not houses to eat and to DRINK in?
If Paul's point was that they were drunk, then he is saying, do you not have houses to eat and get drunk in?
Do you think Paul was promoting the idea that they were allowed to get drunk in their own homes?
Do you believe drunkenness is not a sin in the Bible?

For the record, @mark kennedy is a creationist as am I. I've explained my avatar and the history behind it. So, I wish you the best, but I see no point in our discussing this further. God bless.

Yes, I am aware that he is a Creationist. I was in a thread with him before involving Creationism. However, he is promoting a contradiction if he has an avatar that pushes the lie of Evolution. Cavemen are of the lie of Evolution and they are not a truth taught in the Bible. It's not a debate. It's reality (Just as we know Jesus was not white and He was not a hippie). But you are free to promote the lie that Jesus was white, a hippie, and a criminal (with your avatar).

It has been pointed out to me that my avatar is a violation of the second commandment against idolatry and images, based on the Presbyterian Westminster Catechism (Questions 108-110). This seems to be a misapplication of the Westminster standards and a misinterpretation of the second commandment. Am I wrong? If so, how?

You should read this article that defends the Westminster Standards.

Images of Christ a Violation of the Second Commandment

They have some really good verses and points you should check out. For if you don't believe me, maybe you will believe somebody else that has a high regard for the Westminister Standards (Which doesn't mean much to me; For I believe in the Bible and not in creeds or confessions by men). But they do use Scripture to defend their points. So please check it out.

"We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us." (Lamentations 5:4).

So was the water intoxicating?

The New Century Version actually is a little more clearer to our Modern Day English.

"This is because when you eat, each person eats without waiting for the others. Some people do not get enough to eat, while others have too much to drink."
(1 Corinthians 11:21) (NCV)
(New Century Version).

I can have too much water, milk, or grape juice too drink. It does not qualify it as being an intoxicating beverage. We have to understand that the 1769 is still based upon the 1600's English and it has influenced Modern Translations. Back then the word "drunken" can mean satiated with any kind of substance (As I have shown you with a 1913 Webster's Dictionary).

This is great. I always thought he sang ''...I'm gonna steal the horse I ride...'' explaining why he was wanted as one cannot just go around stealing horses. If my parents had shelled out for MTV I would have had the visual clues to clarify it at the time, tsk.

Haha, that's an adorable error. My parents came of age in the 1980s rocking out to Bon Jovi, so their songs became a part of my childhood. We started the tradition of naming our dogs after musicians or song titles when I was a toddler, and so when my grandparents let us choose the names of their dogs we continued it. We took some creative liberties with the girl.

That's my brother and I with Bono and Bonnie Jovi, circa 2014. :)
