I am extremely irritated right now, but I will try to keep my cool. I am arguing with this fellow right now on a YouTube video about Luke 17:34-36. The passage deals with the Rapture, Christ's Second Coming. The passage tell us that two people will be in one bed. One will be taken and the other left behind (for lack of a better term). At the same time, there will be two women grinding, two men in the field. One will be taken and the other will be taken. I have said numerous times that this passage supports the scientific fact that the Earth rotates around the sun. He claims that I am insane and the "scientific facts" that have been cited from the Bible are just me taking the verses out of context to fit them so that they say what I want. He also claims that there is zero evidence for the Bible, as well as zero evidence for the Bible's truth, and that most Christians know this (roughly 99.99% of them do, according to him). Could someone please help me, because I am very frustrated and flustered. I don't know how to respond or what to do!

your asking us to leap into some one elses argument ?

isn't there a proverb about that being like taking a dog by the ear ??

No, I am asking whether or not the aforementioned passage is in fact supporting the scientific fact that the Earth rotates around the sun.

No it does not support that.

Walk away from the argument. And don't look back.

Well, the first thing you have to realize is that no one comes to the Son unless the Father draws him (John 6:44). So that means that nothing you can do will win this person to Christ. It is only a work of God, a literal miracle, which can save him. So where does that leave us?

We are called to preach the gospel (Matthew 28:19). We know that faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God. (Romans 10:17) A presentation of Christ which does not include the gospel is emptied of any power. You could argue evidence with someone all day, but they will always have reason to dismiss it. You see in the scripture that even the Jews who saw the Red Sea part later rebelled against God by worshiping a golden calf. The problem isn't evidence, it is their spiritual blindness. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

The only thing which is effective is preaching the word of God. The word of God is powerful, it is sharper than any two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12) Whether the bible proves that the Earth revolves around the Sun is really not relevant to the fact that this man is facing Gods wrath and needs to repent of his sins and receive Christ for forgiveness of sins and eternal life (John 3:16).

Pray and trust the Holy Spirit to give you the right words to say. (Matthew 10:19-20) Ask God to help you reach this man and don't worry about proving the bible. The scripture says he already knows there is a God but is suppressing the truth. (Romans 1:18-21). The problem isn't evidence, it is that he is in rebellion against God and he needs a miracle to be saved. Ask God to make you an instrument of life in his life and give you His love for this man and for lost people. Pray for doors to open and for wisdom to help him to Christ. (James 1:5) Realize that your obedience to preach the gospel means that you have pleased God, whether he comes to Christ or not. Some plant, others water, but it is God who gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). God bless.
