CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Does 'Goddidit' constitute an explanation?

There is no set definition. Even the Bible doesn't follow a set definition, saying killing is wrong and then depicting mass murder by God.
As for the Bin Laden - Bush question, there is no 'correct' opinion.

The complicated human condition occurred after good was ignored and evil was embraced in the garden.
The correct definition of good and evil is found in the garden.
We must step back before we can go forward, then the human condition wouldn't be so complicated.

I would say nether. Ben Laden killed 3000 Americans. Bush (along with partly Obama) killed around 94,000 Iraqi civilians. Lets not forget the 4273 American troops who were killed by Bush and his enemies
They are clearly both wrong. However I think you wont find such a statement among the majority of Conservative Christians

Its complicated because good and evil don't exist. They are just ideas. What people claim is Good and Evil change from culture to culture. Those that claim that good and evil exist hinder humans understanding one another as those words are used to demonize and divide. evil more so then good.
How? evil is a vague but emotionally powerful word.
Peace comes from understanding one another. It takes more then just an old book from the desert to understand the rest of the world.
Yes i do think we need to step back and look at the world. Maybe one day you will see religion as a whole and understand its role in all of this.

The practical answer has always been: The correct opinion is that held by the winners, the ones with the biggest army or the best weapons.
Well, Adam and Eve didn't know good and evil, and were forbidden only to eat the fruit of a certain tree. Now, I haven't eaten of that fruit, the tree being unavailable, so I must be good.
It is very entertaining I must say. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, et al, all murdering, robbing and raping over what is good and evil.
They are both right. Both are very evil men.

God is the opposite of evil. Satan is the opposite of good.
Those who obey God follow good. Those who disobey God (like Adam) follow evil.
What's your definition?

This is what happens when good and evil is reduced to a mere opinion or idea. People fail to recognize that the will of God is good, and evil is anything done contrary to the will of God.
Good and evil explain the divide and presents the solution to the divide.
Evil is a living spirit - Satan:
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood , but against...the spiritual forces of evil ...the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Eph 6:12, 2:2.
Good is a Living Spirit - God:
"No one is good except God alone. Luke 18:19.
It is that "old book" that helps us to understand one another, and teaches us how to relate to each other peacefully.
The only religion that matters in all this is the Christian religion, despite the rotten branches that may be found on that Christian tree. It is still the correct tree, bearing the correct fruit for all to eat and live forever.

I don't fail to recognize this. You fail to recognize that this makes morality trivial and the opposite of absolute. God can simply change his will and good and evil are turn downside. At least when its tied to a culture it has some meaning or reason when looking at history. The same could not be said for god.

You cant define a word using itself as the definition, or its exact opposite because you don't know what the definition is in the first place.

"Right" and "wrong" are just as fabricated as "good" and "evil."
Saying that God is good and Satan is evil doesn't do anything to define "good" and "evil," especially since there is documentation of your God commanding His follower to murder his child, which I'm sure you'll agree isn't "good." There is also documentation of Satan trying to remove the veil of ignorance from the eyes of two humans who were deliberately created ignorant, which I wouldn't consider "evil."
