As others have said, God will forgive both murder and divorce as long as the person(s) involve repent. I won't explain myself any further since I have not been in either situation. All I hope and pray for is to marry the right person who will work with me to stay in the marriage no matter what .

Even if he is married to her?

Jesus is clear in Matthew 19:9 that he does not recognize the second "marriage" as binding, being as he called it adultery.

So.... I wonder if Scott Peterson was thinking along those same lines, that one's ex has to die in order for one to remarry and to not commit adultry.

Therefore, are you saying or implying that ,as a christian, there are ONLY 3 ways to get out of a bad marriage, if one person does not get help, are Adultry,Murder, or Suicide?

Whatever he was thinking, it was his choice, and certainly not Jesus' intent. The intent of the Lord's restrictions is to protect the sanctity of marriage and to move us to improve our marriages, not bounce around from marriage to marriage, let alone kill our spouses. Hiding behind a verse to justify a sin to yourself will not get you off the hook with God, and it shouldn't with other people either.

I agree and believe that is was GOD"S intent to protect our marriages and not for us to bounce around from marriage to marriage. It would be great if I could spend the rest of my life with a woman whom I love. However, the ones who want me,I do not want. The ones that I want,do not want me. Well,,,, it seems that not even GOD always gets what he wants (the sanctity of marriage).

God will forgive a divorce, but that doesn't dissolve the marriage state between the original spouses in his eyes. Hence Jesus said that if you divorce and remarry (unless you're the victim of cheating) it's adultery.

Well if either party does remarry, it is adultery and therefore the divorce holds doesn't it because the other party is now a victim of cheating are they not?

Of course God doesn't get what he wants, this is a sin-filled world. The responsibility of the Christian though, is to live for him not for ourselves. This means honoring our marriage vows rather than divorcing and then finding someone else.

Only the victim would be free, the perpetrator would not be. If Jane cheated on John, John could remarry, but Jane couldn't even after John moved on. Of course, it is better if they stayed together to work this out, and better still if Jane had never cheated in the first place. Mind you this is the most permissive interpretation of Matthew 19:9 that could be considered not to be twisting it outright. There are stricter interpretations of that verse.
