So read the OP already ....
Someone was telling Sam that "dawn" meant night.
He was asking for more information to clear it up in his mind.
That would be a very poor translation; which could explain why poor Sam was confused by it.If 'dawning' as it is used of the resurrection passages is what generated the question, as I understand it, it could also be read 'turning into' the next day. From a Jewish perspective, this would be at evening.
That may be right and good in proper context.IMHO dawn means the end of darkness and the beginning of light. It is the dividing line.

In some translations what you are referring to may be that a new day dawning begins at sunset, all through Scripture, since creation,
very different from western thought (and maybe from greek ways of thinking also).
English and greek and western ways of thinking and speaking and writing and so forth is often very different from Yahweh's meaning in His Word (i.e. The meaning in Scripture).
The Father in Heaven is exceedingly and extravagantly generous and joyous to reveal this, to reveal everything about Salvation concerning this life and the life to come,
to little children trusting Him and relying on Him.
that person implied there was no night it referred to dawn.
There are only 2 mentions of "dawn" in Genesis:
Genesis 19:15
When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.”
Genesis 32:26
Then he said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
Both refer to sunrise.

What verse(s) specifically ?so night in the first part of Genesis is or isnt night?

Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. What verse(s) specifically ?
As related a few times earlier by a few, yes -the dawn of the first day began in the evening according to scripture.
