Does anyone pass out tracts or leave them in public places, etc.? It seems to me this isn't done as an evangelistic tool as much as in former years. I still like to do this. I even have a few on "The Passion of the Christ" from American Tract Society. Other than the American Tract Society, where do you get your supply of tracts? Any recommendations?

Tracts are little pamphlets or booklets that you can use to share your faith. The subjects vary, but they usually talk about Jesus Christ. The American Tract Society has beautiful full-color ones (but they are expensive). In some churches you will see tract racks where you can select and take tracts to pass out to people (if you are outgoing...) or you can place them in places for people to find. It is fun to think of where to leave them. I pray that God will bring the right person to the right tract. Just another way to spread the message of the Gospel. When I worked in a Bible Bookstore some years ago we used to sell them by the bundle load--now they are harder to find.

You can order tracts from www.Christianbook.com as well as Provident Bookstores Online (its a national christian bookstore chain) http://www.mph.org/pbs/

You can order them in sets of 100 or more, and the varieties are nice to choose from!

I carry a few around in my jacket pockets, as well as mini books of The Gospel of John. You never know when you'll need them to aid in your witnessing. I've even had a skeptic close friend say "Can I have one of those 'silly' things?".

I said "Sure you may have one of these silly things".

Then I watched his silly eyes light up with silly excitement and silly wonder.

Then he said "Thank you", and I replied "Your welcome, Silly".

Anyway, please buy them. Don't feel strange about carrying them. Use them everywhere. When you deposit your check in the bank, give one to the teller. When you order a pizza for delivery...give one to the delivery boy.

Evangelize...Jesus said so...silly! ;)

EDIT: After re-reading my post, I in NO WAY meant these statements to ShetlandRose (although she is quoted). These are general statements to anyone who may be considering using tracts/mini-books. I'm thrilled to see ShetlandRose using these wonderful tools!

Huh? Duh. Oh. No, I didn't take anything wrong at all. I'm elated somebody else uses tracts too.

Those are great ideas JMRE, I never ever thought about leaving them places like that. Or such.... humm I always thought I would have to walk right up to someone and hand it to them and start to witness.

I might have to pick up a few and keep them in my purse!!

I've actually left tracts in a laundry mat and later when I came back to get my clothes there was a guy reading them. Another time I left a booklet "the claims of Christ" in a laundry mat and a new girl in town found our chuch address in it and came to our church. She said she had to wait for someone else to put it down so she could get a chance to read it. I also leave lots of them in the jail I go to teach at and this last week I was in one of the rooms and I saw one of the guys reading one of them. Praise God. People are searching.

In Christ

We make our own tracts or have them printed to save a buck or two. We have a large race called Bloomsday in Spokane, Wa. that we go to every year and hand out thousands of tracts. It would be way too expensive for us poor folks to buu the fancy printed ones. We usually stick with something simple and direct. I also leave them with tips when I go out to eat (you have to tip well though ;) ) and give them to whoever God leads me to. they are a wonderful tool and sometimes event lead to deeper conversation if God has been working on their heart before you get to them.

Yeah, tracts are excellent. We sell them at my bookstore still(a Christian bookstore). I have passed them out before and believe they are good tool. However it really feels good to hand out lunches to the homeless, and I have done this in Detroit before. They need them so much. I find talking to them is just as effective as a tract. Just telling them God loves them.

That is great !!! Do you include a tract with each lunch too (with possibly a church name and address stamped on the back)?

Curious. What food do you put in the lunches? Where do you pass them out? Do you sit with them while they eat their lunch and talk about God?

about a year ago, I was shopping at a local grocery store... I was stopped by a kid that had to be 13...
"Mam, my name is _____, I am with Chase Valley Church and we are here today to share something that changed our lives." He then hands me a tract and asks me to take it home and read it.

I smiled. I let him know that I was a Christian, but that I was amazed by his courage and boldness to witness to me.

It was very encouraging.

Actually, I have passed out tracts for Halloween right along with the goodies. It is an excellent time to be a good witness without even saying anything!
As far as when I have been to Detroit, we never passed out tracts with the lunches. I really don't know why, but we did talk with them. I would compare it to how a Christian soup kitchen operates; you tell them about Jesus while passing out the food. We passed them out in downtown Detroit. You can spot the homeless a mile away usually. Normally, we sit with them for awhile. You just have to go with the flow. Some people like to talk for 15 minutes, others want to be left alone. It evens things out pretty well.
