• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

Oh wow! I know what you are talking about. I find that I save so much time and energy if I'm organized with lists and things are prepared ahead of time. It's one incredible balancing act and if I get behind and disorganized, I can't even think straight. It's not fun but I find that having a good sense of humour is a real blessing. I find that being crazy (funny) keeps me sane.

Wow, sounds like our days! It does get quite busy. So glad your husband helps you. The whole "do you have your cell phone...etc" sounds like me when my mom is getting ready to leave for something. The looking for something always leads to finding something else and losing track of what you were first doing. And 1 chore turns into 50!



Lists are great, I use to hate making them but honestly if I dont get step by step what needs to be done where I can see it on paper, I wont know how much there is to do and then I'll always forget something.

I have Fibromyalgia, Arthralgia, Arthritis, and other pain. It is very tiresome.

Yes, it is. It just isn't easy. The pain along with the fatigue just seems to be a continual cycle, in a sense feeding off of each other. The main thing I find helpful is pacing and balance. This is easier said than done because I find that it constantly needs to be adjusted if other things come up such as additional illness, tasks, stress and then on the positive side as we get a bit better we need to change things by increasing activity. This process can seem long, continual and frustrating. Last month I had 3 weeks of pushing myself beyond what is healthy, knowing full well I would later pay the price. Still, the tasks I was working needed to be done. It can be hard to fit into a world that many times doesn't understand / accept our need to pace and have balance. It can seem like the world is spinning feverishly out of control while we're simply trying to think and see straight.

That's one of our problems--feel a little better and we do more. Then we crash. It takes a long time learn to pace yourself even on our seldom "good days."--Instead of doing so much more, just do a little more, without feeling guilty that we are not doing enough!! Most of us were workaholics, had the "get it done right, get it done now"-we never could relax even on our days off--we have to retrain our brain to go slower, we don't have a choice!! Otherwise, we bring more pain on ourselves. We have to learn to ignore what other people think about us, and just plod along at our own pace.

I do believe from all the things I have read about it , I have it indeed because no dr that i have been too and that is several Im talking about has been able to pinpoint it and i dont know why ? I just know it is devistationg to have it happen . I hate it and wish it would just go away one day but we all know who suffer from it , that will not be the case . UGH !!!

Ugh, I feel for you. It is hard to get the proper help and diagnosis. It can be frustrating and seem never ending. I do hope you get the support you get the right diagnosis so you can get the proper support. Take care.

Yah--but the research they are doing is helping everyone to understand more and more about it, so that maybe, one day, we will be able to get better help. We have to keep our spirits up, otherwise the fools think that we're depressed and that if they treat "our depression" we will be all better---what they can't seem to get is that we can get depressed, but it's because we can't sleep, can't work, our brains have gone on vacation and are not coming back, we're loosing (or lost) our independence, oour money and who the blazes wouldn't feel a little depressed about that???!!! But it's important to keep our spirits up and laughter is good--like a medicine--
One thing that keeps crawling into my mind is--they know pretty much that this is a brain thing. It's like our brains have short circuits, as thoug it remembers every stinking little pain we have ever had and it just keeps sending those signals out, helter skelter--our little finger hurts, next our elbow, then maybe a shoulder, or 2--then the hips and on and on--it's no wonder dsr's think we're crazy, because this is a crazy, no sense condition. Soooooo---how about somebody doing some studies on electric shock therapy???!!! It's much better now, they put you to sleep (that in itself sounds wonderful to me--I do understand why Michael Jackson went the propafel route, I've worked around that stuff and wish I could have it too!!) so there is no pain. It can mess up some of your memories, but some memories are best forgotten anyway!! I saw a show about twin women, one was very depressed, the other not. Nothing helped the depressed one, it took 16 electric shock treatments, but she was back to normal. So why can't they zap us, see about getting all those little nuerons and synapses and whatever firing normally again? I'll volunteer!!!

I feel better knowing I'm not alone in feelings like these. I am new in dealing with this but when I have a week or more of "good days" I feel like I got better. Then, it comes back and I get depressed about it. I'm trying to learn how to deal with the mental aspect of all this. Including being one of the seemingly few men who live with Fibro.

You should really try going into Treatment and Side Effect Info from Patients Like You There is a fibro forum and there are a few men on there. Fibro has no prejudice!

I hear you. It's not fun. It can feel long and frustrating apart from all the symptoms and pain we have to deal with. It can be a real downer but I find it is helpful to have a place to vent where people understand and don't judge or criticize. I imagine it would be tough since there are fewer men diagnosed.
