• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

if anti depressants could combat or help alleviate the side effects of ambient or other sleep aids like that? I'm thinking of going back to Ambien so I can actually sleep but the problem is, it made me crazier than I am. My out of control thoughts got even worse, so did my depression.

I hate ambien as a whole, but it knocked me out and all the meds I was put on contained ingredients that I'm immune to or quickly adjust to after a dose or two.

I just want sleep before my hallucinations get as bad as they did when I was a teen.

So I'm wondering if it would help to take anti-depressants as well. When I can afford them at least.

Have you tried melatonin to help you sleep?

Also if you're interested in natural stuff, give this website a look.

Or do some research on essential oils. I've been trying them out myself lately and I'm really impressed.

Lavender is suppose to be a great sleep aid. I believe the lavender is like $20 for 15ml which should last you at least 3-4 months.

Yes. The available dosages are too low, so all it does is give me a "stoned" feeling or makes me incredibly depressed. Occasionally, I get a "high" or giddy feeling from taking it. It may be because I took over twenty when I was seventeen in a desperate attempt to sleep after three weeks of literally none.

All the "naturals" only work for awhile, and then they no longer work. At least the stuff I've tried and any teas work like caffeine on me or I can't keep down. I used to have lavender spray and wax melt but I've been out for awhile and it doesn't help. Love the smell though.

Well these are different than spray and melt. They're oils extracted from plants, and you can just absorb them directly into your system.

Anyway, I'm not saying they're a cure all by any means, but I've seen them make a difference.

They are starting to use them in hospitals now.

Anyways, just a thought / suggestion.

I suffered from chronic insomnia for many years but found that my mood stabiliser Tegretol (Carbamazepine) did wonders for my sleep and my ultra rapid cycling bipolar. They put me on this medication after my last psychosis (July 2011) and I usually get a good night sleep now. Tegretol is relatively cheap.
