Pink's done a couple of songs about war...

~ Dear Mr. President
~ I have seen the rain (a song that her father wrote in Vietnam, she does a duet with him)

Both songs are on her "I'm not dead" album.

Hope that helps :)

I don't know whose song it is, it's probably a traditional, and it was sung by Peter, Paul & Mary:

1. The cruel war is raging,
Johnny has to fight.
I long to be with him
From morning 'till night.
I want to be with him,
It grieves my heart so
Won't you let me come with you?
No, my love, no.

2. Tomorrow is Sunday,
Monday is the day
That your captain will call
You and you must obey
Your captain will call you,
It grieves my heart so
Won't you let me come with you?
No, my love, no.

3. I'll tie back my hair,
Men's clothing I'll put on.
I'll pass for your comrade
As we march along.
I'll pass for your comrade,
No one will ever know
Won't you let me come with you?
No, my love, no.

4. Oh Johnny, oh Johnny,
I feel you are unkind
I love you far better
Than all of mankind
I love you far better
Than words can e'er express
Won't you let me come with you?
Yes, my love, yes.

5. They marched into battle,
She never left his side
'Til a bullet shell struck her
And love was denied.
A bullet shell struck her,
Tears came to Johnny's eyes
As he knelt down beside her,
She silently died.

You can leave out the last part if you don't want it to be about death.

That's a pretty tall order for war songs.

"Christmas at Ground Zero" by Weird Al
"Rooster" by Alice in Chains
"Me 262" by The Blue Oyster Cult
"Sink the Bismark" -by Johnny Horton. (too bad he screws up the lyrics)
"Civil War" by Guns n' Roses

Probably the closest I know of to what you're asking is "Storm the Embassy" by The Stray Cats
It's about the Iranian hostage crisis and not a war, but does deal with soldiers and missing loved ones overseas(there were lots of military personnel among the hostages)

Why do you need/want war music?

American Soldier by Toby Kieth.

Most of the other songs are about being against the war, not songs about soldiers.

The song says at one point "I dont want to die for you, but if Dyings asked of me, Ill wear that flag with Honor, Because Freedom don't come free".

That is the song of comfort you need, not stuff by Pink.

The song she sings on her album with her father, "I have seen the rain" was actually written by him when he was in Vietnam. I imagine it was very comforting to him.

And I think it's purely a matter of opinion - I find a lot of Pink's songs verbalise how I'm feel on occasion and in that way they comfort me :)

She asked for stuff about the troops, not Pinks song badmouthing the president.

And also, Pink isn't badmouthing the President, she's simply expressing her view on a situation and asks why things are the way they are.

But anyway, this is diverting from the OP so I'm going to leave this at a difference of opinion :)

Hm . . . the only I know that hasn't been mentioned is "Sound the Bugle" by Bryan Adams, but it may not be what you want (kind of depressing in the beginning, but ends very hopeful). Pretty song though. ^_~
I was just thinking of that one. Granted, the movie Spirit was about horses, but a lot of the songs are very well written and I believe Adams had a lot of outside inspiration as he usually does. Beautiful album.

Bryan Adams - Sound The Bugle said:
Sound the bugle now - play it just for me
As the seasons change - remember how I used to be
Now I can't go on - I can't even start
I've got nothing left - just an empty heart

I'm a soldier - wounded so I must give up the fight
There's nothing more for me - lead me away...
Or leave me lying here

Sound the bugle now - tell them I don't care
There's not a road I know - that leads to anywhere
Without a light feat that I will - stumble in the dark
Lay right down - decide not to go on

Then from on hight - somewhere in the distance
There's a voice that calls - remember who your are
If you lose yourself - your courage soon will follow

So be strong tonight - remember who you are
Ya you're a soldier now - fighting in abattle
To be free once more -Ya that's worth fighting for

"Letters From War"? I couldn't tell you who the artist is.....................

The song I'm thinking about is about a mother who's son is in an unnamed war, about how her son saved the lives of his comrades and came home a Captain, and the letters describing the events.
